It says 1.58Ghz and 192MB RAM. What does this mean and if it isn't enough, how much will it cost to get it 'vista ready'?

The processor speed (1.58 Ghz) looks good, but you will need more memory (RAM). According to Microsoft's site, you need a MINIMUM of: 800 mhz processor, 512 MB RAM, and a 20 Gig hard drive with 15 Gig free. This also depends whether you get the basic version or the premium version of Vista. To be "premium ready" is recommended 1 Ghz processor or better, 1 GB (gigabyte) of RAM, and a 40 Gig hard drive with 15 Gig free. In my experience, I like lots of applications, and use applications that eat hard drive space, so the bigger the hard drive, the better. My recommendation: upgrade to 1 Gig of RAM, plus the biggest hard drive you can comfortably afford, or else make sure you have at least 15 G of free space on your hard drive. Most new computers come with at least 80 G hard drives.

Generally, you will need at least:
- An 800 MHz processor
- 512 MB of RAM
- A 20 GB hard drive with 15 GB of free space

Or instead, you can download the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor tool to check your laptop compatibility from:

Hope it will help

it seems your laptop is WAY out of vista specs. you better check the comparison of your laptop at www.pcpitstop.com and click vista readiness test. The recommended spec i think is sufficient is 1GB ram, 2Ghz Pentium Core 2 Duo motherboard, and a whole lot of HD space, and a powerful graphic card for smooth graphic performance
by the way, running vista on laptops is a battery power killer,so consider wisely

No, the minimum is about 512 ram. And probably 1gig or more ram for full features. I would just keep that laptop for little longer and get whole new laptop.
