due to a bad cold which I got amoxycilin for and didn't finish the course (!). On top of that, I got hayfever so the doctor, along with antihistimines prescribed me Flixonase nasal spray. Which I used and then since September, my nose and been totally clear.
Until a few weeks ago and now its back to very, very itchy first thing in the morning, sneezing loads and a blocked nose. Then about a half hour after I get up, its fine. I do still smoke - could it be an allergic reaction to that?? It's driving me mad!
Another thing, excuse the crudeness but when I blew my nose first this morning, it was yellowy...then clear after that...is that an infection??

Oh the myths behind snot color! If I had a dime for everyone who thought they had a "sinus infection" because their snot was yellow/tan/green--I'd be a BAZILLIONAIRE!
The color of your snot tells doctors absolutely nothing about whether you have an infection from a virus or an infection from bacteria. The color and consistency of snot can help discern allergies from infections, however. (Usually, allergic rhinitis is associated with clear, stringy, copious amounts of snot. BUT, not always!)
But I digress...back to the story of snot color...your snot is partly composed of a chemical that reacts when it comes into contact with air. The length of time that this chemical comes into contact with circulating air that you are breathing determines what color your snot ultimately becomes. If your nasal passages are patent and you are able to breathe normally, the chemical comes into contact with air only briefly, and your snot will be clear to off-white. But, if your nasal passages are clogged-up, this chemical will be exposed to air for longer periods of time resulting in progressively darker shades of yellow, then green , then tan.
Your current symptoms sound most like allergic rhinitis (itching, sneezing, copious amounts of snot), and the smoking is just keeping things all riled up! Hope this helps!

Sounds more like allergies.
Itchiness and sneezing is not part of the "infection" picture.
Our bodies are pretty good at fighting off infection without having to need antibiotics every time you get yellow snot. If you have a fever or something, then might be worth going in for antibiotics. But at this point.....cut back on the smoking. And make an appointment if the allergy symptoms continue.....stopping smoking would help with that stuff too.
Smoking is basically the worst socially acceptable thing you could ever do to your body.

It is hay fever or allergies, and an infection. Your immune system is low and can not get rid of its toxins...By smoking you keep adding toxins and lowering your immun system. If you keep smoking your stretching capacity of the longs will diminish and you will develop COPD a lunch disease which you will be on oxygen most of the time....How much of a choice do you have then to quite smoking?
After you AB did you take acidophilus to regain “good bacteria” in your guts and improve your immune system?
It sounds like your immune system is low. Drink 8 – 8 ounce glasses of water daily. Avoid sugar and products which sugar as every infection thrives with sugar. Try Oil of Oregano as Oil of Oregano is anti- bacterial, anti- viral, anti- fungal. Take the Oil of Oregano internally and massage around the ear. Feeeeels so good. Use Eucalyptus on her pillow or half an onion to clean the ear. Try to steam with eucalyptus to open up the sinuses. Use super foods to increase your immune system, like walnuts, kefir, blue berries (vegetables and fruit in general). For allergies use lots of Vitamin C like 2000 mg every hour times 4. It seems like you are almost better. Just the tip of the ice berg. Here some more practical tips. Avoid stress and focus on health not on sickness, visualize your self better and do the visualization together in a fun way. When you get in a positive mode you will also be able to find the right solutions much easier.

probably not an infection. Sounds like allergies to me. And/or dry sinuses. Try using that nasal spray again, and perhaps also a saline nasal spray. And quit smoking. Smoking doesn't just affect your lungs it affects everything. I think it is really dumb when people complain about health problems, yet there they are, still smoking away. Smoking kills.

Yes you have infection You should take Doxicyclin 100mg First day 2caps at a time than on wards one daily. Also take antihistaminic. If you were diagnosed as suffering from Sinusitis and properly xray's were taken and other examination also done properly and than only diagnosis was established than i am sorry you will have to go for surgery otherwise your present condition will keep on repeating, severity and frequency will keep on increasing specially in winters & rainy seasons.

I get the same problem from time to time. Just use sinutab. Take before bed, and first thing when you get up. You'll be fine, like it never happened. Also, drink lots of water as well. It will help everything to keep flowing.
