I studied Aikido may years ago. My Sensei never mentioned anything about a diet that I had to follow. Obviously, it helps to stay away from fats etc in order to get yourself fit. However, I think a diet isn't really necessary.

O'Sensei followed a Macrobiotic diet. He had George Ohsawa cook for him and sent many of his best uchedeshi to him to study the do of cooking. Ohsawa has written a book evaluating O'sensei's life and connecting Aikido philosophy to food. It is a very overlooked subject in American dojos.

I recommend a balanced diet with lots of carbs for energy. A good aikido workout can be strenuous and cardiovascular. Stay clear of high fat or protein only diets.

Vegetables are also great and provide nutrients for healing, should you get injured.

Hope this helps.
