i have a movie in .avi format...when i open it in windows media player, only the sound plays without the video.....

Download the Codec Pack All- In- One from File Hippo (www.filehippo.com). That includes VobSub (for subtitles, which most DivX or XviD files don't come with), and some DivX and XviD codecs as well. It's easy to install and should fix the problem. Otherwise, you can use VLC Media Player or DivX Play 6.5 (all from File Hippo).

heres what i got for you. download total video converter in download.com
use it to convert the .avi format that you have to any other format or to .avi again. in that way, the video codec of the .avi file that you have will be automatically fix or re-encoded. or download some more video codecs from the internet. but i will go with my first answer. Total video converter. it has different video codec in it. If you download converters, you get two things, a codec, and a converter for your mobile phone, ipod, mp4. etc. two birds one stone.

i have never had that problem before. i have 11 now. have you tried playing the video in another player?? you should also beable to download coedic plug-ins for different formats.

you need the video codec . easier to download a free prog called irfranview . just google it . works great and is very small.

Don't use WMP, use VLC Player(google it), it play any and every format!!!
