But when you talk about life goals,or the finish line, it is meta.
Example my goal is to be a doctor - Mi (meta) es llegar a ser doctor
I have to reach the finish line - Tengo que llegar a la (meta)

Goal in Spanish as in football is gol, and as other people said meta is a goal you want to achieve.

Gol!!! that is for football. META is a goal as to achieve something, it is also used for other sports as well, but for fooball is gol (specially South Americans!!!)
