I'm around 5'8. I currently weigh about 111 pounds. I plan to go down to 110. I exercise a little. I take hoodia and use a precription drug to keep me from getting hungry. My biggest fear is gaining weight. I like looking thin so my cute clothes look good on me. That's important to me. I like to eat, but I don't do it much anymore. I probably eat less than 700 calories a day now. I live on sugar free jello and gum, and low calorie diet food. I don't think I have a problem because I don't weigh less than 100 pounds. My mom says I'm developing anorexia. Is this true?

Without a doubt, you have every stigmata and sign of an eating disorder. In addition, you may have body dysmorphic disorder. Either way, please please please get medical help. 700 calories a day is hardly enough for anyone to sustain life and my fear for you is that left untreated, your current eating patterns will worsen and will place you at risk of kidney failure (which results in death), heart failure (which results in death), and electrolyte disturbances (which result in death).

If you are scared to enter a treatment program or to get help from a trained medical professional because you think that you will be surrendering "control" over your life, please consider what "control" you really have. If you look closely at your life, I'm sure you'll see that you're not really in as "control" as you might like to think. Again, please get help for your medical condition--before it's too late.

For your height you're underweight. Also you may not be anorexic but you could have an eating disorder. Things like working out too much are forms of an eating disorder. also you may very well be on your way to being anorexic. usually if you are so obsessed with your weight it develops into a more serious problem. I recommend you step back, examine life, and get some professional help.
Examine everything you do because of your weight. Journal every instance where you deprive your self from something because of you weight. Think, do you not eat a certain food you love, miss important events because you have to workout, sleep too much, have headaches, get nagged for not eating. Then review it all and decide if you are happy. Is being skinny really making you happy?
I think seeing a professional counsellor (like a psychologist) would help you. Not that there is something wrong with you but perhaps you need to talk and get guidance. something is telling you that you have too be small, in reality you don't. In fact you are at the extreme, too small (110 is considered underweight for someone who is 4'11", since you are tall you should weigh more)

I would say your weight and height, though clearly showing you to be very thin, taken by themselves do not make you anorexic.

However, the behaviors you describe do sound very much like you have an eating disorder. Your fear of gaining weight is irrational, for one thing; existing on 700 calories a day is likely not providing your vital organs with enough energy and nutrients to keep you in good shape; and last, anytime you are already thin but taking medications as hunger suppressants I would say that indicates a problem.

So, yes, I believe your mother is right.

very well could be...how old are you? You must eat balanced meals with good nutrition. living on sugar free jello and gum is not healthy, you will pay for it later in life with medical issues. 5'8" and 120 you'll be just fine. You must find a healthy weight to maintain. review sparkpeople.com it is an excellent diet and exercise website that is free to use.

YES! Anorexia nervosa isn't a matter of weight first and foremost - it's a psychological issue (which then, of course, comes to effect weight - but being skinny isn't what defines the disorder).

PLEASE, get help now. The earlier you get help, the better... Psychologically, it only gets harder to fight the farther you get along, and after a point you can't reverse the physical damage. Please.... it's okay to have admit to having a problem; far more important is taking care of yourself! And you can't deal with this alone.

Very best wishes to you.

i think you have an eating disorder. your weight is already a bit inappropriate for your height. you should even gain some more. it doesn't mean that you don't weigh less than 100 lbs you are still ok. with the way you are eating, i don't think you're getting enough nutrition. and oh, check out your menstrual cycle. if you have missed 3 consecutive periods or more, then you are definitely anorexic.

yes baby i think you do have an eatig disorder, but dont worry i used to have an eating disorder too and im much better now. i went to a nutriologist and a therapist and im on a stable weight and i eat pretty well.
you shouldn eat as much light products, because they dont have enough nutritional value, beter try to eat normally (staying away from a lot of sugar or fat) and excersise regularly and stop thinking abut your weight. we are who we are and we should accept ourselves, and not try to fit into some stupid stereotype the media shows.

5"8 is quite tall. So yes I think you're a little underweight. And you do sound anorexic. Since when does being thin mean you look good. Being healthy is what's important.

yes, but you already know that.

you are very thin and want to get lower. why would think that just because you arenot 100 lbs you are not sick?.\ you are afraid of gaining weight and use prescriptions to not feel hungry. that is not normal. you are anorexic, yes!

please talk to your doctor and/or mum and seek help before you do permanent damage.

think of it this way. if someone you loved came up to you and told you of these exact same "symptoms" what would your reaction to them be?
