Firefox takes around 10 seconds to start up on my computer. internet Explorer starts up much faster, but I'm not particularly a fan of IE. :D

I'm looking for a way to increase Firefox's performance and reduce the memory load, without affecting my Add-Ons (of which I have plenty).

Do you have FF2.0? I noticed that the 1.x versions really hogged memory, but with 2.0 things got quite a bit better.

Also, if you get the addon FasterFox, you might see some performance increases.

I still occasionally will still see FF eating up a ton of CPU, but closing and restarting usually does the trick.
And if its any consolation, IE7 seems to be plagued with the same memory hogging problem.... maybe its those tabs...
