I think a shuttle kiln is the same thing as a tunnel kiln. In both cases, the kiln itself is heated to a constant temperature at all times, with the central part being the hottest. Pottery is placed at one end of the kiln and transported slowly through the kiln so that its temperature increases at it approaches the middle of the kiln, and then it cools after it passes through the heat source and back into cooler parts of the kiln. Both the shuttle kiln and the tunnel kiln describe the same process, where pieces are "shuttled" through the "tunnel" shape of the kiln. This is in contrast to a studio kiln that is filled with pottery and then fired all at once, with mechanical or computerized controls that activate and deactivate heating elements to change the temperature of the entire kiln.
