This is the kind of question that gets many differant opinions.
I personally feed the raw diet as i know what my dogs eat when i prepare it myself BUT........ There are many good dog foods out there. Canidae, wellness, solid gold, california natural, dick van pattens formula, innova and many more that are all natural and healthy to feed your dog.
Iams and eukanuba are not the best foods, but they are not the worst commercialized foods either. better quality than most but still poor.
Science diet as promoted by your vet is very POOR. It is too over rated and over priced for a crap dog food. people believe that science diet is the best because it is promoted by the vet, but vets get a kickback to promote this food and they are NOT nutritionists, they ARE pet doctors

Iams shouldn't be a excellent food. It contains corn which is totally unhealthy for the puppies. I would suggest you switching them to Natures Recipe grownup dog food. It is all traditional and absolutely healthy. Do not forget to switch them steadily. You additionally need to preserve your four yr historical on adult meals. Senior meals contains materials for the older puppies and isn't healthful for dogs below 7 years. You can get Natures Recipe grownup and Natures Recipe Senior at your neighborhood Pet smart or Petco. Additionally Natures Recipe cuts down on shedding, unhealthy breath and the amount of stool your puppies produce.

I like Natural Balance (Dick Van Patten: www.naturalbalanceinc.com) in the roll form--no wheat or animal by-products, only fresh whole meats, and the food is fresh and dogs love it... I think highly processed kibble food with too much wheat and rice and corn is bad news. I see so many dermotological problems I firmly believe start with this sort of stagnant dead diet...

I never feed more than 50% dog food--the other half of the diet is healthy fresh foods--everything from chicken and lamb to papayas, cucumbers, carrots and radishes, even some watermelon...

Would you want to eat only Cherrios your whole life? And how nutritionally sound would that really be? Mind you, the label says it is...!

Kathie M is right about IAMS--bad news. They were a great company 30 years ago, but those days are over. Like most kibble, their foods are filled with beat pulp which makes dogs have firmer BM's (which owners love). Problem is that beat pulp fiber also sucks all the enzymes out of your dog's intestinal track...!

I breed german shepherds. I feed the puppies Science Diet Lamb & Rice Puppy Formula food. German Shepherds are puppies until the age of 2, unlike a lot of other breeds. I also have a border collie and a black lab, I feed them Natural Balance Ultra. Nutro Max Large breed Puppy would also be a good choice.

The primary ingredient in dog food should be meat-based protein, not corn meal, flour or corn gluten meal.

There are some very high quality foods out there that are considered even human grade like Canidae (sp?) that has ingredients that are far superior to Iams, Science Diet and the like. It is soy and wheat free.

Hi: First of all let me tell you that iams uses dogs in a bad way to test their foods for animals so I will never feed my dog that. Their dogs are kept hungry and all alone in cages for long periods of time with nobody around for most of the day. As long as you don't feed them people food they should do good. I have to switch around brands and flavors because he like myself gets sick of the same food everyday. Ask your vet for vitamins for your dogs they work great. Hartz products have been known to kill many animals so stay away from all their products.

The pups should be on the puppy chow, dry food for sure. it helps their teeth.. even the 10 mo . old should still be on puppy chow till they are about 1.. they can then go on to a good dry food. can foods can some times give them tummy problems and do not give their teeth the work out they need.. We have always fed out dogs the Purina food, they come in stages.. they even have some for delicate stomaches, and older dogs. and small dogs and larger dogs.. Kibbles and bits is a good one too, they have come out with a new one with teeth cleaners in theirs now too.. The vet sells expensive dry and canned food too.. just depends on how much you want to spend on dog food.. but do try to get one with lots of grains and veggies and lean meats.. they are the best.. good luck..

a good brand of balanced dogfood is fine.
A little cooking oil in bone meal that you can buy from the butcher in their food once a week is good for their coats.
Sugar, sweets, and fatty household food is a no-no.
Overfeeding is very bad, makes the dogs fat , stick to the recommendations with the dogfood .
Bob Martins pills is perfect as supplement .
