Where I work, its hard to talk to this girl because shes sort of in a different department. But another worker said he thinks she may like me. I would like to ask her out, but I am shy, and we havent talked much. I would like to get to know her better 1st but I dont think thats possible because we're in different spots. Can I ask her out anyway? Or would it be weird?

ask her out on a double date with some of her friends or meet her in a public restaurant. Anything you can remove from a dating atmosphere like being alone with her or going somewhere where she may feel uncomfortable may get a yes response and later as you know each other better you can venture out more.

You should totally go for it! If you wait, someone else might scoop her up. Yeah it might be a little nerve racking, but worst case scenario she says no and you go back to your deparment and have no obligation to talk to her again. Of course the best case scenario is that she says yes and you'll have the chance to get to know her better. Good luck with whatever you decide :)

Remember, being shy won't get you anywhere. So believing in yourself, be like a man. Go to her and say to her nicely and be straight forward in asking her out.
If you really like her then don't be afraid of her saying No.
In case if you don't succeed on the first time then don't give up to keep trying.

Of course - go for it. Maybe ask that common friend to initiate drinks with 3 of you..then yr friend can make up excuse and leave halfway leaving you on a date with her!! Old trick but so what if it works!!

Nope, it wouldn't. It will just show your interest in getting to know her. Basically set up a sorta fun a non fancy restaurant date. Or do a group thing.
