One common possibility is a hiatal hernia. Have you seen your family Chiropractor? He/she can help you with a hiatal hernia, or other mechanical causes (e.g. spinal subluxations, rib subluxations, intercostal muscle spasms, etc.).
I agree with the one answerer that suggested the possibility of a gallbladder problem. I do not agree with any suggestions that you take antacids or acid-inhibitor drugs. This approach is GUARANTEED to give you much more serious digestive/health problems down the road. Avoid this type of thinking.
You are correct in taking these pains seriously. Something is wrong (although probably not life-threatening). Find a doctor/chiropractor that will work with you to find and fix the cause.
Best wishes and good luck.

I get really terrifying chest pains, too, sometimes. I've heard that it may be connected to congested lungs, or the chest wall.
You should keep a food and activity diary, and make a note when you have the chest pains. If it's triggered by certain foods, or maybe not enough sleep, you'll know what to avoid.
I'm overweight, too, and it doesn't seem to be connected with my weight. When I'm tired is when it hits the worst, so I try to get lots of sleep, and relax my way through the pains.
You've done the right thing to go to the doctor -- you know it's not your heart. Now, it's up to you to observe what's going on in your life and with your body. Take good care of yourself!

Sounds like indigestion or or something along that line.
Obviously you should listen to your doctor. Lose some weight and eat less fatty foods. That should help. Give it a few months, try to lose like 20 lbs (you didn't say how overweight you were, so lets start small) and then see if it bothers you as much. More than likely it won't.
But if it does, the next step would be to check your gallbladder, or go for a full cardiac workup.
Good luck!

It could be indigestion or an irregular heart beat or nothing. I advise and I work for a dr to go get a cardiac workup from a cardiologist. This would involve a stress test and checking caroid arteries (ultra sound). Tests are simple, painless ad no big deal. EKG will only show heart rate at on given time.

Johnny D......you might check out "non-alcoholic fatty liver disease".... this can be cured by losing some excess weight and changing your diet but you should find a doctor who knows that kids do not get recurring pains on the right side without reason.

It sounds to me like it's your gall bladder, especially since you say it gets worse when you eat fatty foods.
I was your age when I started getting the same symptoms and it wasn't diagnosed until years later, after suffering like you do for such a long time.
Question your doctors about this.
Good luck!

You clue is fatty foods. Sounds like some indigestion/GERD symptoms and maybe some gallbladder acting up. Try using an antacid/antigas product like mylanta or maalox and see if this helps next time.
