People say it corrects a chemical imbalance as if depression were an illness. There is a chemical imbalance because you are unhappy not because you have caught some contagious disease. Alot of people tell me I should get medication because I am depressed and never really happy with anything anymore. And I say things like life is just an endless circle of stress and doing the same old **** until you die. Anyone with a brain notices these things though. Why am I somehow crazy for being honest to myself? The real question here is even if it's a chemical imbalance. That is caused by unhappiness correct? Why is it that people view depression as a disease that can be cured through medication?

It's the imbalance that causes unhappiness,
not the other way around.
It can be considered a disease, but it's not contagious.
Medication will not cure the condition,
it will only address (possibly counteract) the symptom.
It is not a cure in that it does not eliminate the problem.
Anti-depression medications and therapy can be very effective.
If you feel that it may be a problem, please consult with a physician. If it's not what you expected, you can always stop.

Clinical depression is in fact a disease that can be managed if not cured by a combination of medication and therapy. You obviously recognize that you have a problem, but my hunch is that you would still benefit from talking to somebody. I have a friend like you, and you are too smart for your own good. Please realize that having intelligence about he world and society does not preclude you from happiness. Good luck.

Antidepressants are not pain killers. They act on the serotonin levels.
