There are a number of things that can cause a dog to lose its hair. All dogs have 'mange' but most are able to fight it. However if a dog's immune system is lacking, the mange could win the battle and cause hair loss in the animal. A simple skin scraping will determine if the animal has mange. Another problem that cause hair loss is a yeast infection on the skin. This problem is very expensive to test for/treat if you go by the normal vet treatment. My dog had this problem and bathing the animal every day for a week in selsun blue helped rid my dog of the infection. This is a human anti-dandruff shampoo and can be found in most drug stores.

My dog has lost his hair on his back from scratching. After several trials, we finally discovered that he itches from allergies and scratches until his fur falls out.
