I'm having surgery on my foot in February. I've never had stitches before and wanted to know if it hurts to have them removed?

They usually spray the area with a numbing agent which makes it so you barely feel it.

Your physician will cut and pull them out after healing. This is fairly painless. The anxiety is probably the worst for you. I had a deep cut on my hand and had to have it cleaned out and stitched up..6 stitches. He used a local anesthesia, and I watched the entire proceedure. I went back, he pulled out the stitches and it was painless. The stitching hurts the most, but you will probably be under anesthesia for the surgery. Dont worry, you will be ok.

Generally, no. You will feel pulling, but that should be it.

If you're really concerned, take a pain pill an hour before the appointment (to remove the stitches) and have someone else drive,

I've had stitches more then once and when I have them removed it did not hurt, I felt it a little.

Good Luck

Not at all..many these days dissolve and you don't have to remove them....otherwise they still don't hurt unless you leave them in to long....I've cut and pulled some of my own out before and couldn't even feel it

it doesn't hurt to have them removed.

think of it like pulling shoestrings out of your shoes.

once the incision has healed-the string-like material used to close it up is cut on one end and then just pulled out. you might feel a little bit of pressure as they are being pulled but that's it.

It feels *weird*, but it doesn't hurt.
