The car runs great but the body is semi-crappy thanks to a delivery truck backing into me last year. My main confusion is whether it's being a stick makes it worth more ... or less. There seem to not be very many of them around. I'm only the second owner of the car and hate to part with it, but it's time to move on. Ideas?

It depends on the mileage on the car. Those cars are work horses. Call around some body shops ad get quotes for repair and keep it. If not try selling it for 1-K depending on the mileage and condition.

Think carefully. There are shift linkage problems with that transmission, and the sun-roof mechanisms suck, but other than that, it was probably the best designed, most durable Volvo ever built. Mine went over a million miles and outlasted the 740 which I foolishly replaced it with.

You might be ahead to keep it as a back-up car, or at least get the dent fixed so you feel better about it. It's a fine machine.

Hey, I traded my '79 240 on a newer Volvo in 1993 and have been kicking myself ever since. If you can, keep yours and drive it 'til it disintegrates. The standard shift appeals to me since the 4-cylinder Volvos with automatic transmissions were dogs. The 4-speed would be worth more to me but that's just me.

dont sell the car! you wont get much for it, anc chances are, it will outlive your next car, even if its brand new.

you currently own the most reliable car ever made. I heard one story of someone bringing one into a shop because of a broken timing belt (so it wouldnt run, obviously). The lady didnt know you had to do maitenance on cars (like change the oil), and the car had gone 48K without an oil change.

if you dont have to, dont move on. save the car and give it to your kid. theyre great learners cars (indestructable, safe, cheap, slow)

Look the car up in the blue book and it will give you the Price for what year the car is worth.
