Actually, I just answered my own question. For those of you curious, the keyword was "transatlantic travel" on Google. I thought of that only after making this post, and naming myself that. :)

The QE2 & QM2 will start regular transatlantic crossings in April (both are now doing world cruises). Many of the cruise lines also have repositioning cruises, but those are only from points in Europe to the US or Caribbean in the Fall and then they do the reverse in the Spring to move their ships into the Med.

Best to contact www.cunard.com. Booking as early as possible will get you an early booking discount and a wide selection of cabins.

Well the obvious answer would be yes. Travel time will be a big issue although things have come a long way from the days of the Mayflower. ;) There are still passenger lines that travel back and forth. Price may be steep but I don't know what they are. Here's a link..... http://members.aol.com/CruiseAZ/transat.htm

If he's gonna do this he will have to do it way in advance.

Certainly! Before there were trans-oceanic flight available the only way to get across the "pond" was by ship. Of course it will take a bit longer, but travelling by ship is (in my mind) a much more comfortable way to travel. Congratulations on your up and coming nuptials!

Yes you can travel from the UK to the US by boat but it is a long way. I think a Ship would be better.

No. the only transAtlantic passenger deliver, Cunard's Queen Mary II, accepts pets in a separate area only, and you ought to circulate to the animal there. i do no longer think you may take furniture , etc. you will ought to apply a international mover for that, and a puppy delivery provider or airline for the animals.
