depending on who you listen to, the ten tribes are the american indians, people of various easter and far-eastern countries, north africa, europeans, even china and mongolia.
but as for actual evidence, the ten tribes were scattered to the east and west along the mediterreanian and indian oceans as far east as se asia. there are groups of peoples in several countries from western africa as far as the indian subcontinent, afghanistan and uzbekistan, who claim to be remnants of the ten tribes and who follow the dietery and religious practices of the israelite tribes. modern israel, however, does not yet accept them as such.

Well for starters, it was not just 10 tribes. There are 12 tribes of Judah... the tribe of Dan however was excommunicated. But, in the end all 12 will be represented. The 144,000 will consist of 12, 000 from each tribe. The will witness to the rest of the Jews and Gentiles during the Tribulation period.

The lost ten tribes were scattered throughtout the earth. That means they're everywhere. They will be gathered one by one by those sent from the Lord to gather them before he comes again (when that is I have no idea). Maybe that's proselyting? Could some of us be part of the ten tribes of Israel? That would be really cool, don't you think? I know it is in the last days. I would guess before the big war spoken of in the bible (God would have to gather those on his side first).
And by the way, regarding the other two tribes. They are Judah and Benjamin. These were not lost, as they were part of the southern kingdom when the kingdoms were split. We know who and where they are (read the old testament for anyone who doesn't believe me).

ok...you need to see a documentary called the return of the 12 tribes.

They are basically all over asia. Alot in Afghan (4)
2 in Uzbekistan.
2 inIndia
1 off the coast of Carthage, Africa
and 1 unknown.

They are all in the process of returning, except for the Cohen priests in Carthage. They will come last to do their preistly duty, when they usher in the Apocolypse in Har Megeddo, Israel. (Armegeddon in English)

the Zulus are still around

the Navajos are thinning

the Apaches are growing

the Hopi's are printing books

the Inuits are still colder 'n' hell

the Nez Pierce are still carving totems

the Sa'ads are still oil tycoons

the Sunnis and Shi'ites are still fighting

the Dons still run New York and the mob

the return of civilization will likely happen with the disappearance of silly religions and an embarrassment of technology, science and humanity

They were captured by the Assyrians and it is written in Assyrian literature that Tiglath-Pilaser III or one of his descendents conquered Samaria ( Nothern Israel, the North Kingdom), but was unable to capture Jerusalem...

The Assyrians apparently split the people up and scattered them across their empire as was their practice.....
