I was washing dishes this afternoon and the little stinker was running around all hyper (only 6 months old). The dish soap fell off the coutner and he was playing with it. I got him out, rinsed him off.. but he must have got soap in his eye. He has been laying around all day... His eye was puffy a few hours later. This was at 2:00, it is now 11:00 and his eye is swollen shut. He is eating and everything right now. he usually closes his other eye too, but I can open that without him being bothered! Will he be ok... the vet is closed till morning.

It could be an allergic reaction to the soap. If it has not cleared up or if it gets worse before tomorrow I would definatly take him to a vet. . In the mean time use a soft cloth/cotton ball and fresh warm water and rinse the little guys eye out very well. Make sure there is no soap left in it at all.

With a human we would flush out the eye with water for ten minutes. I doubt your cat would be OK with that, but natural tears should get a lot out. With the swelling it sounds like there was an injury of some kind, so it would be wise to take him/her to the vet - kitty my have a black eye under all that fur.

You need to go to the vet tomorrow.

Your cats eye is very irritated and it needs to be flushed by a doctor. He might have scratched his eye with his nail when he was trying to clean off the soap. Go to the vet... you need top have it checked.

For tonight, if you have an eye solution... SALINE EYE solution for contacts. Do not use the stuff for red eye... you need contact solution. You can flush it eye out tonight. It is very safe and will not hurt your kitty.

Turn the kitty over on its back, open his eye and put the stuff in. If he is squirmy, on the closed eye is fine. Put a big pool on the top and open the eye gently.

Go to the vet tomorrow. You need to have him checked!

Good luck!

He'll probably be okay until the next morning, but if the eye seems to be getting steadily worse, you'll need to find a 24 hour emergency vet/animal hospital in your area.
In the meantime, keep him calm and don't stress him out. Don't administer any medications without consulting a certified vet. Washing his eye out every few hours with warm, filtered water or warm saline solution may help.

Yes he should be fine...that is unusal for his eye to swell up though....I'd say watch him for awhile and if it doesnt start going down after a day I'd take him to the vet.

Maybe something hit him in the eye (like the edge or the soap or container) and he may of had some sort of eye injury or perhaps its some sort of an allergic reaction.

Just watch him..if no progress off to the vet!

Try rinsing his eye with running water - several times. His eye must have been really irritated by the soap. I am guessing but if this is all it is then the swelling should gradually go doen after a few hours. If the eye is still swollen by morning, its time for vet intervention.

DON'T give him ANY medicine, keep calm and don't disturb your cat!!! I think he will be fine, soap is not so bad... Let him sleep if he wants, and take him to the Vet as soon as possible (take the bottle of dishwasher liquid or soap with you) and Think positive :-)

If you have some saline solution, rinse out its eyes with the saline, it does not have all the chemical's as water.
