Hi I have battled mouth ulcers for as long as I can remember. There are many theories as to the cause, some say there's a gastric issue, others say it's a lack of vitamin B, but nobody really knows. The only thing that really works for me is a paste called Kenalog in Orabase, and also try colloidal silver as a mouth wash. Hope this helps, and I sympathise with you! They are terrible. Penny x

I have had canker sores for years and years and had one the size of a dime once. Ouch! They usually last from 7 to 10 days and up until recently there wasn't much you could do but apply medication to ease the pain and wait it out. Many of the OTC products hurt more that the ulcer. Try to find a dentist that offers laser dentistry. They can zap the canker sore and the results are immediate. Not all dental offices offer this service, but just call around. Also, Cankaid works pretty good. It comes in a little tube which you break open. Inside is a swab with the ointment already on it. You just dab it on the sore and if forms a waterproof coating on the area. It doesn't burn like so many other products. Hope this helps. DO NOT rub salt into it, just rinse with salt water to help prevent infection.

Rubbing salt on a mouth ulcer is only going to irritate it more. Obviously, you need to see a doctor for a good diagnosis, since mouth sore may be a clue to an underlying condition. In the mean time, over the counter products like Gly-Oxide may be helpful until you see the doctor.

Hi, I work as a dental assisstant and often we see mouth ulcers in one of two cases... the patient is either lacking in vitamins or they are stressed. Stress being the more common cause. They may not be typical mouth ulcers or even mouth ulcers in some cases and its best to seek medical treatment in this case as you wont get rid of it with a quick fix. The absolute best thing u can do is gargle a solution of betadine/iodine (try NOT to swallow it) you can dilute it or you can try it undiluted... I suggest rinsing your mouth out after simply because the taste is terrible!!!

You can try a little abesol, its a mild oral numbing agent they sell over the counter. I know people who have metal braces and use it because they get cuts in their mouths sometimes and it helps relieve the pain. best of luck

Don't know what the cause is, but glycerine is really an excellent healer for anything sore in the mouth.
