I would go with a Malamute. They are sweeter and quieter than a Husky. Mals are also more laid back than Huskies.

I had a wonderful Malamute for 14 yrs. and my best friend has a Husky. They are both very difficult to train and are very intelligent. Husky dogs tend to be escape artist/jumpers while mals are not. Both breeds need someone who has a LOT of time for long walks and runs. I prefer malamutes but wouldn't recommend them for many people. Read up a lot on them before you get one and you'll understand more about them and their needs! Wonderful dog if you're right for them.

If you never had a Husky before don't get one. Its a dog that you need to spend a whole lot of time with training. Not for the novice. Go malamute

Huskies are safer. Mal can turn no matter how much love and attention you give. My niece had one for five years and one day it just attacked her daughter for no reason at all. Be careful.

Cross breeds of the 2 are very good dogs, best of both breeds (they raise a lot of them as sled dogs in Canada)
