Anon, Luke 3:16 as nothing to do with the Sabbath ... here is the verse you posted: "John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:"

The Sabbath is a very special day of the week. Its a day we set aside for God. Thank you all for posting, but only a few stated the answer correctly. However, I can't pick them all, just one will get the "spot light" of the best answer.

Summer Breeze, do you have the verse that says the actual day he rose was indeed Friday, as we know it today?

Third day He rose, Wednesday through Thursday, the first day; Friday through Saturday, the second day; Saturday through Sunday, the third day. That means Christ was crucified on Wednesday and rose on some time between sunset on Saturday and sunset on Sunday.
But where in scripture are the days of the week titled as we know them today?

The Sabbath is VERY SPECIAL. It is a command given to THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL by GOD. Exodus 31:16,17 "Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant."
It is a sign between ME and the children of Israel forever: for in six days…….. .
Deuteronomy 5:15 reiterates…therefore the Lord thy God commanded thee to keep the Sabbath day. What a glorious commemoration of the deliverance of the Jews out of Egypt!
From the above it is quite obvious that THE SABBATH was given by GOD to Israel.
IN the NEW TESTAMENT it is impossible to find any indication at all that the church observed the Sabbath. Of course, the Sabbath was utilized by the propagators of the faith to go in to, or join the Jewish community and tell them of THE CHRIST.

It doesn't. It DOES however state in Acts 20:7 - And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.
Hebrews 4:7-10 - Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. 8 - For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. 9 - There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. 10 - For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works as God did from his.
When Christ died on the cross, He rose on the 3rd day, which is the first day of the week. Good Friday - remember? He was crucified, dead and buried. On the third day, He rose from the dead. Christ rested from his works on the first day of the week when he fulfilled the will of His Father: God in heaven by dying on the cross and being resurrected from the grave.

Saturday is the seventh day. The Sabbath was celebrated on Saturday until Christ's resurrection. Most Christians now celebrate the Sabbath on Sunday because that is the day Christ was resurrected.
