I once read a book called 'Hurtling toward oblivion' and its subtitle was'a logical argument for the end of the age'. It was by a man who believed in bible prophecy but he was not a pastor or a bible teacher. He was a Medical Doctor. But with using a single bible verse he went through and gave a very logical argument why mankind was not meant to live on this planet forever. His premise seemed to be that you don't need the bible to tell you that the world was not meant to last forever. The bible just gives you the details.
He starts with the concept of progress and shows that progress is like an avalanche or a tital wave. It's non-stoppable and its irreversible. We could never go back to the days of the 1900's.
Then he showed that progress is increasing exponentially. Back in the 1200's progress was creeping along but today with the high speed super computers knowledge doubles every 1 1/2 years. It took us 6,000 years to get the knowledge we had in 2005. By the middle of 2006 that knowledge had doubled. We're on the verge of technologies that boggle the mind.
Then he showed that progress has its good and bad aspects. Nuclear technology brought us nuclear medicine, nuclear energy but also nuclear weapons. The same could be said of all other technologies. New technologies could be used for the good and the bad. As these new mind boggling technologies come out, the good ones have the capacity to help billions of people. The bad ones have the capacity to kill billions of people.
Then he talked about what he called the 'threshhold of lethality'. This was the idea that when technology became very powerful, you couldn't measure the good technologies against the bad technologies or the good people who have these technologies against the bad people who have them. Even if 99.99% of the people are good people, when the technologies are powerful enough, all it would take is that other .01% to get their hand on the bad technology and they could wreak havoc on the world.
Then he talked about the fallenness of mankind. It's the idea that mankind seems to have an inborn inherant evil nature. If you don't believe that, your argument is not with him, it's with 6,000 years of human history. Since the dawn of mankind he has used every weapon he's ever had to kill each other off. That includes nuclear, biological and chemical weapons. When iron and steel hadn't been developed he killed each other with clubs and bows and arrows. When steel was developed he killed each other with knives and spears. When gunpowder was developed he shot each other. When bombs and planes were developed he used those weapons. Mankind has already used nuclear, biological and chemical weapons. More people died from war and terrorism and crime in the 20th century than any other century. It will sure be worst in the 21st century but I don't believe we will get too far into the 21st century, That's how close to the end I think we are. He talks about the proliforation of weapons in these last days. It was a very simple world back in the cold war days. The US controlled its side of the world and the Soviets controlled their side. Both sides had the missles pointed at each other in kind of a mutually assurred destruction but both sides were responsible. When the Soviet Union broke up and then started selling their weapons, the world became a dangerous place. Today there are 17 nations that have nuclear weapons and many more are in the process of getting them, not to mention terrorist groups who don't care if they blow up the world because they think they are going to paradise with their 70 virgins. People used to say "thank God Hitler never got nuclear weapons"(he was working on them). There are much worst people on the earth today than Hitler. The nutbag in North Korea already has nuclear weapons(and he's been diagnosed as a paranoid schitzophrenic). The other kook in Iran will have them soon. The crazies who run China have them and have said they will use them when the time is right. Eventually, the terrorists groups will get them because the arabs have oil money and all they have to do is buy them. If you don't think people will sell it to them, you're living in dream world.
One of the signs that Jesus gave of the end times was that a time would come upon this earth that things would get so bad that if He didn't come back when He came back, there would be no one left alive on earth. That was never true before, not even during world war 2. Never has there been a time when we could destroy the world but it's true today. They have the technology to make anti-matter weapons today which would make nuclear weapons look like a pop gun. Jesus said in Mathew 24:21,22
" For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened"(by the return of Christ). There are 333 prophecies in the old testament about the 1st coming of Chirst and 456 details about his life. Those prophecies all came true. In fact for the first 20 or so years after the death of Christ the gospel was preach from the old testament because the new testament hadn't been written yet. It was all there in the old testament. There are around 500 prophecies in the old and new testamnet about the 2nd coming of Christ. If all the prophecies about His 1st coming came true, I have no reason to believe that the prophecies about His 2nd coming will not come true.
Do I think Christ will come in your lifetime? If you are 37, I would say a definite YES! I think it's right around the corner.

The Bible shows clearly what the end times would bring, those things are part of an over all sign that the end times are here: Have you watchged the news on television and wondered,'What is this world coming to?' Tragic things happen suddenly and unexpectedly that no human can predict will bring.(James4:4)However, Jehovah knows what the future holds.(Isaiah46:10) Long ago his word the Bible, foretold not only the bad things happening in our day but also the wonderful things that will occur in the near future. Jesus Christ spoke of the Kingdom of God, which will bring an end to wickedness and make the earth a paradise(Luke4:43) People wanted to know when the kingdom would come. In fact, Jesus disciples asked him:"What will be the sign of your presence and the conclusion of the system of things?"(Matthew24:3) In reply Jesus told them that only Jehovah God knew exactly when the end of this system of things would come.(Matthew24:36) But Jesus did fortell things that would take place on earth just before the Kingdom would bring true peace and security to mankind. What he foretold is now taking place! (2Timothy3:1)(Matthew24:7)(Look... them up for your own information. Have people become like that in your community? No doubt they have. There are people everywhere who have bad traits. This shows that God will soon act, for the Bible says:"When the wicked ones sprout as the vegetation and all the practicers of what is hurtful blossom forth, it is that they will be destroyed forever(Psalm92:7). The last days are indeed filled with woe, just as the Bible foretold.

Yes. I believe it because of the prophecies, particularly the return of the Jews to Israel in 1948. The alignment of the nations that will do battle against Israel. The rise of the European Union, China, certain Arab nations, and Russia. I remember a lot of people saying the prophets or the interpretation of the prophecies must have been wrong when the Soviet Union fell, but look now. Also people said that all the prophecies were fulfilled in 70 A.D. But they missed one. The burden of Damascus, which says Damascus will be totally destroyed to the point that it will be uninhabitable. This has never happened. Damascus, Syria is one of the oldest continuing civilizations in the world. This is something the unbelievers should look for because I believe this will soon transpire. Jesus said this generation shall not pass until all things be fullfilled. What generation is that? The generation that sees Israel reborn as a nation. My opinion and a lot of others.

I used to think that this would happen in my lifetime, but as I get older I think less on this. Of course our Lord could come at any moment and as I see the godlessness on this earth I wonder why He hasn't come already. But there is much growth in the church worldwide and perhaps there will be one last worldwide revival to take place before the final curtain falls on humanity.
And may God bless and keep you too!

Hi Manhattan Girl, I'm going to be in your neighborhood tomorrow.
I believe that the end is coming. If you read Ezekiel 38, it talks about a major war in the Middle East, with all the players that are getting involved right now. Iran, backed by Russia, is going to lead an Arab coalition against Israel. 83% of the attacking forces will be destroyed in what sounds like nuclear war. It's this war that is going to bring the Antichrist to power. This will begin the 7 years of tribulation, after which Christ will return.

Jesus is returning for His Bride?.... Twelve brides? Twelve disciples? Are we going here for somewhere, or are we having some free ride through heist?
An entity is an entity and could not be a person. But claiming an entity is not by marriage as if it is a woman.
His Being as have been resurrected is irreplaceable into another but I am always open to the options of thoughts that a continuance of the Being into its Ultimate Presence is welcome, which means another Being in God's Glorified Presence shall endure.

At the age of 52, I have to say it can't be that many years before the Rapture. Just look at all the signs of the last days before the Rapture is supposed to occur.(Matthew 24:3-14)
I hope I get to go up in the clouds with Him while I'm alive because I don't want to be here when the Tribulation starts.

It is definitely in our lifetime. His bride is shown to us in Rev.21:2, 9-10. Always check out the scriptures when you are taught something. We will be at the supper as the body of the groom. He is returning for His body.
Bless you in the name of Jesus

* Every generation from the very decade that Jesus rose form the dead people have thought it would happen in their time. People today miss the parts of the bible where they are expecting Jesus return in their lifetime. Hebrew 10:25 says to not forsake the assembly of yourselves together, but encourage each other all the more as you see that day approaching. So this blows a hole in the theory that we are just entering the last days. Hebrews 1:1 says that in these last days God spoke to us through his son. We have been living in the last days since the assencention of Jesus to heaven. According to the bible.
Jesus will not come back in the next 100 years. I bet 2 million dollars on that. Wanna bet?*

I am tempted to think so, after all atheist seem to be spewing more venom in our direction every single year. Allot of the people here act like they would adore it if all of us were to suddenly drop dead. Which is a sign the time is probably not far off. But people have been setting dates for Christ return almost since his ascension, and they were of course wrong, so I am hesitant to say for certain. All of the false date setters are part of the reason non-Christians think we are whacked.
