My puppy got his first set of shots 2 days ago ("Distemper Parvo LA"). He only got diarrhea today, more than 48 hrs after his shots. He gets soft stools sometimes (I bet because he occasionally sneaks a taste of the newspaper pellets in his litter box or eats a dust bunny before I can get it out of his mouth). How concerned should I be? He has only had diarrhea twice within 45 minutes but it was very watery and shot right out of his butt. There was no blood and it wasn't black. It was a lighter brown color than usual. Should I take him to Doggy 911 or wait and see how he does until about 15 hours later when our vet opens and I can call/ take him in? Thanks for any advice!

Gemini, I called Foster and Smith and they said they didn't have consultations.

**I took my dog to the vet a few hours after I posted my question. I'm so sad: my little puppy has "Giardia!" It turns out he either licked/ate infected poop or he stepped on some and then licked his paws. :( The vet told me birds and other animals are also carriers --SO EVERYONE BE CAREFUL! I am considering buying a muzzle so my pup doesn't lick anything dirty again!

Call the vet right away. A puppy is just like a baby, they can get dehydrated very quickly! Please keep calling until you talk to someone, just like you'd do w/a baby. Find out if its normal to get diarrhea after getting shots and what you can do to replenish lost fluids.

It is normal for some puppies to have diarrhea after getting a shot. The vaccination is a controlled virus that is injected to build an immunity to the virus, so it would take a little time before you would notice a change in the stool. The biggest concern with vaccinations are allergic reaction and usually occur immediately after the injection. Keep an eye on his stool and if it doesn't start to get more solid then you should ask your vet. Foster and Smith pet supply company has a free consultation line from live veterinarians. They are real too, I used to work there!

it is form of complicated to respond to this - only because a puppy throws up would not propose it is a "gastric kind computer virus". yet there is any kind of issues occurring right here. Does he vomit/spit up the water after eating? and then vomit/regurgitate precise after eating? if so, searching on what breed of puppy that is, it will be a actual deformity said as megaesophagus. If the puppy is having diarrhea, is torpid and under no circumstances playful, besides because the vomiting, plus per chance has a fever, you may be searching at parvovirus, extraordinarily if the puppy became those days vaccinated (interior the previous week to 2 weeks). it must be unusual for a 17 week previous puppy to ignore nutrition - ANY nutrition. At that age, they're many times growing to be so immediately that they are going to devour some thing in sight to assist their body's improve the capacity reserves they go with for boom. I have a 14 week previous immediately who will devour some thing it is no longer nailed down! If he's not having any bowel movements (have you ever been protecting a watch on him even as he potties?), then you genuinely may be searching at a bowel obstruction. domestic dogs are also notorious for putting fairly some thing of their mouths. If it became some thing that wasn't digestible, it is attainable he would have a blockage in his intestines. Do you provide such issues as rawhides or Greenies for him to bite on? they're both terrible for causing blockages that require surgical procedure to fix and save the canine. Regardless, i ought to attempt some undeniable, unflavored yogurt or cottage cheese in case you sense you should feed him. you could also grant Pedialyte (unflavored, sparkling) to drink to assist replace the fluids he's lost from vomiting. in the different case, he extremely desires to bypass lower back to the vet... and that i ought to %. a diverse vet, if it were me.

GO TO THE VET... THIS IS A SIGN THAT SOMETHING IS VERY WRONG. YOUR DOG MIGHT BE HAVING A NEGATIVE REACTION TO THE VAC.

Find the nearest emergency clinic, call your vet and see if they have someone on call.

that happens quite often with pups, just make sure it has plenty of fluids and if continues for more than a few days take him back to the vet. dont feed him any rich foods either, just real basic plain food.

If this was its first visit to the vet, do not worry. They wormed it, tested it for many potential problems, and gave it several vaccination shots.
Your pet will be fine and the runs are normal; your per will be fine.

I would take him to the vet. It is better to be safe than to be sorry.
