Who is responsible for the innocent children born with horrible diseases? If the religious people say don't blame God for all your troubles, then are these children responsible for their disease? How do people explain this?

I don't understand how religious people always make excuses for their God(s). Some people don't do anything to bring on the suffering they experience. Its forced on them.

How can people be so nonchalant about the suffering of others? If no one is to blame, then how to do these poor people deal with a suffering they are not responsible for? What hope is for their life?

IF NO ONE IS TO BLAME, WHAT POINT IS IT BELIEVING IN A GOD? IF HE WONT HELP, THEN WHY BELIEVE? WHY SHOULD SOME HAVE UNHAPPY LIVES WHILES OTHERS CAN PARTY AWAY?

Someone may be responsible, but maybe not. If the mother drank like a fish and the child has FAS, or is born addicted to crack, or born with AIDS, the mother is responsible...or perhaps society is responsible, if you look at it that way, or the father, if he gave the mother AIDS and she didn't know she had it. There are so many factors, human factors, that can contribute to something like this, and so many possible scenarios that I can't make any really broad generalizations.

If it is one of those hereditary diseases that really could not have been prevented, then nobody is responsible, it's just a medical disease. If you wanted to lay blame anywhere, you'd have to look for any factors that could have caused genetic mutation, a family history of that illness, and what have you, but it wouldn't change anything for the child.

I believe that responsibility lies within the realm of the individual's responsibility for the safeguarding of his/her own health and that of his/her children, and the medical community's responsibility to treat injury, sickness and disease to the best of their ability. If I can help, that is my responsibility.

But when children are dying of AIDS all over Africa, and the new Pope sits in his ivory tower and refuses to allow the use of condoms, then I have to wonder. Why is everyone responsible, except him?

We all have things we need to go through. This life is really a very small time when compared to eternity. So as sad as it is, it won't last forever (though it will last the whole life of the child). Everyone has struggles in life. Perhaps it is something which that particular person can maybe handle better than others, or it is just what they are called to go through. Why is there pain and suffering in this life? To make us better not only now, but later as well. If we didn't have to go through anything, we would be spoiled and selfish brats who had no idea what happiness is because we have no idea what unhappiness is. Existence would be pretty bland.

The evil of disease is the result of sin passed down to the children of those that hate God to the third and fourth generation. Children aren't responsible for their own disease, and many people suffer for the sins of others, but God will not let it go on forever. Jesus is coming back and will judge the ungodly.

when you start to think the presence or absence of disease has anything to do with God ...you pretty much have missed the point of faith ...in putting so much stock into the body instead of the soul....its not the disease any god has a hand in...its the state of mind you will live with the disease in....its not that thosechildren have horrible diseases....its that with the little time they have possibly its that they are treated fairly and with dignity ...that when God is in action....im not a religious person but im much more open to the notion of blaming man for troubles before i blame anything and anyone else.

Paradox, God is not unaware, nor uncaring, about our suffering. But these things you talk about are a result of sin entering the world so long ago, when Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the garden of Eden. We are each born with a sin nature. All these things you list, disease, poverty, abuse, in some way are all caused by sin. And I don't mean the sin of the person who is poor. I mean the fallen state of the world.

God will one day step in and put an end to all of this. There will be no more suffering or death, and He will wipe away every tear. But this promise is for those who believe in His son. That is why the bible says....seek God while He may be found. Today is that day.

In the beginning God completely sustained His creation without blemish. That’s why it was perfect. He held every atom together in a perfect state. He kept the planets in their orbits. He kept animals from tripping and breaking their necks. He did not allow people to suffer and die.
Deuteronomy 8:4 gives us a little glimpse of how things might have been in the original creation. “Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.” God is omnipotent and perfectly capable of sustaining and protecting his creation.
When Adam sinned, however, the Lord cursed the universe. In essence there was a change and along with that change God seemingly took away a little bit of his sustaining power and allowed things like suffering and death into His creation. Now He permits bad things to happen—and this is a reminder that sin has consequences and that the world needs a Savior. Romans 8:22 says, “For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.”

God took pleasure in all of His creation ("http://bible.gospelcom.net/bible?passage=revelation+4:11&version=NKJV"), but He loved people most of all. He allowed the created universe to deteriorate so we would see the consequences of our sin. If we did not see the consequences of our sin, we would never see that we need salvation from our sin, and we would never accept His offer of mercy for our sin. Most people easily recognize that there is a problem in the world. This can be used to show them that there is one who has overcome this problem of death and suffering—Jesus Christ.

Religous people try to look beyond this life and into the next. Sometimes people are responsible for child birth defects by drinking, smoking, using drugs etc. Other times God imposes upon parents children with problems. I have a child with Down's Syndrome and is autistic. His disability has impressed upon us that all human life is precious and should be cherished.

Another perspective is that in helping others we help other people "carry their cross" as was done in the scriptures. Suffering in any way makes us share in the sufferings of Jesus Christ. This is a difficult concept for many people to comprehend. Peace be with you.
