Its sounds like a crazy story, but its true. My sister is a huge fan of the movie called the wedding singer. She lost her dvd so she went to a local blockbuster to rent it. She saw that there was one left. A guy came up from the other side of the isle and was going to grab it. They both noticed that they wanted the same movie. One thing led to another and they ended up going on a date. fast foward 2 years. they are getting married. He is in Iraq and she is off in Florida going to college. He is coming home in 6 mnths and they plan on getting married then. They asked if myself,my other sister and my mom would plan the recption. they have already booked the church. My sister and i where thinking about planning a wedding singer type reception. inc a 80's band. we want to go all out,but mom says we are crazy and that people will think its tacky. we thing since it would be cool because of the way they met. do you think its tacky?

I love that movie too! I like it, i think it would be cool and you could even maybe have kinda the story of how they met on each table so the guests could read it and get it! just don't go toooo over the top, make sure that it really reflects the couple, not just the movie.....but I think you no better than that, and if your sis is cool with it then go for it, I especcially like the 80s band, that would really set the mood!

Doing the whole thing that way is probably a bit over the top. But it would be a shame if you didn't have SOME fun with it.

Part of the best man's toast is to help embarrass the groom a bit. Get his help to explain what's going on to the whole audience so it's not an inside joke and then do something corny. But no more than 2 or 3 songs, I'd say.

Remember, this is ALSO their romantic day. It's joyous, but it's not just a joke.

I don't think anything should be celebrated more than love and to have a wedding singer syle wedding totally honors the specialness and commonalities. They've led different lives while he was gone and it will probably be really healing for him to enjoy nostalgia for good happy times. You're a fun sister. I wish I had a sister like you.

I believe that it is a great idea. I have discovered that parents are a bit out of tune or a little stiffer in some circles concerning weddings (my mother wants only appetizers and no dance). I have even told my mother that I can get a dj for free.

it's up to the bride and groom - it's their wedding if they want to have a wedding that way - that's perfectly fine. I say that everybody else has to adjust - it's their wedding. I know someone who had a wedding in a UPS truck - wacky but one person worked for UPS and it was a fun thing to do? it's all up to the people getting married. don't let anybody else tell them or you or whoever is the bride/groom what to do. It's up to them. We had someone in the wedding who did sign language interpretation and then people kept asking us who was deaf at your wedding and we went NOBODY - we did that for fun.. I was a private joke. don't do the receiving line - we did that it was a bad idea. I remember that.

Its what the bride wants ¬ up to the mother. I would say go ahead with the 80s band-because when they tell the story of how they met, the guest will understand y.

Its a sweet idea because that is how they met, but i wouldnt like it personally. I just dont like the whole 80's thing and I would want my own wedding to be more traditional. But thats just my opinion! She may love it! Good Luck!

It's their wedding. Give them what they want. A band might be a little expensive, though. You might get a DJ who will dress 80's style and play 80's music.

I GET WHERE YOUR MOM IS COMING FROM BUT IM SURE THERE IS A WAY YOU CAN JAZZ IT UP WITHOUT IT LOOKING CHEESY.

ALSO KEEP IN MIND THAT IT IS YOUR SISTERS WEDDING AND IT IS COMPLETELY UP TO THEM.

I THINK ITS SWEET AND ANYONE WHO KNOWS THEM WILL GET THE PICTURE AND THINK ITS A GREAT IDEA AS WELL!

Why don't you ask your sister? She may have asked you to plan it; but since this an over arching theme she may want to give you some input.
