Give him some water to keep him hydrated. My old teacher had a dog, and did the exact same thing as your dog did. It turns out he had a stomach flu! I'm not sure if your dog has the stomach flu or something, but I do know that the mild heart disease, doesn't cause these symptoms at all, so that's a good thing!! What I'm really worried about is what he ate. Please look up in a phone book for emergency vets.
I hope he'll get better...

Like the others said.. try your best to look for an emergency vet. In the meanwhile you should comfort the dog as best you can because you are everything to him & it will help him recover much faster than you think. If your dog is willing to eat a piece of meat or something, crush a headache tablet for humans into it.. I have done it befor & it helped a lot. Try to get the dog to the vet as soon as possible.

Look for an emergency vet clinic now! And make sure that you keep a close eye on him to make sure that he doesn't suffocate himself with vomit(unless by dry heeving you mean just making the motion)...It's gross, but it happens. Also, make sure he has plenty of water available.

yes you need immediate help. and i'm sorry but you're not going to find it on here. call your vet, they should have an emergency number listed. call that number, or call and er vet clinic in your area. sometimes with heart disease fluid can build up in the lungs and the dog will dry heave, trying to get it out. and if he's been doing it for 16 hours, get him to a vet.

You let your dog dry heave for 16 hours and now you wonder what to do and want to make him wait longer????
Problems like that can cause electrolyte imbalances and ultimate heart failure.
I'm glad I'm not your dog.
He should have been to the emergency vet a LONG time ago.
Withholding medical treatment when needed is the same as pet abuse.

Yes, call a 24 hr Vet. I'm sure if you call your regular Vet, they'll have a emerg. number you can call on their out going message.
Give it a try. If not then go to the yellow pages of the phone book!.
Good Luck.

He may just have an upset shomach from eating something he shouldnt have. Keep an eye on him and make sure he stays hydrated. If he gets worse or doesnt improve in 1-2 hours I would bring him to the animal emergency room.

You need to let him outside to eat some grass. Look in the phone book. There has got to be a 24hr vet. hospital open. 16 hours is a long time for him to be puking.
