god speed derived from a shipping term,sailors used to say to one an other, good speed, for travelling by ship and ment as get their fast and safe and as travelling by sea was a dangerous, slow and a treacherous task in those days the term became god speed -sort of like wishing someone luck and good fortune for their travels
