Efficient and effective studying is a three step process. If followed regularly you will do very well.

1) Read appropriate material BEFORE each class/lecture.

2) Take good class notes and do all homework assignments daily.

3) Review (best to rewrite them) each day's class notes every night.

Follow these three steps and you will fly through your studies.

Best wishes and good luck.

First set a goal for yourself on what you want to achieve. Develop your will power and determine that you would reach your objective. These are basic to concentration.
Plan your study program in such a way that you spend more time to learn topics in which you feel a bit weak. Dont hesitate to ask questions to others whenever you need to clarify things you are not confident about. No one can be an expert unless he takes others' help.
Sit in a place where you wouldnt be distracted by other things like external/internal noise like household, neighborhood, TV, telephone, radio, loud music, sports, etc. Tell people in the house not to disturb you when you are studying.
Finish your daily chores such as bath, food, etc. as early as you can so that you could devote time fully to studies without breaking concentration.
If you believe in yoga, learn relaxation techniques from a good teacher as these would help you to concentrate. Keep all necessary things for your study such as books, notes, study materials, etc. around you befoe you sit down for your study. If you get some doubts which you cannot get sorted out, note them down on a piece of paper and check with your teacher/knowledgeable friend.
When studying, concentrate on what you are doing, and curb the tendency to think other thoughts as these would affect the quality of your concentration. If you get distracted, have a break for a few minutes and get back to the same topic or some other topic which maintains your interest.
At the end of the day, mentally check if what you have planned for studying that day, has been achieved. If not, try to find where you have lagged behind.
Have good rest - sleep for at least 7 hours a day - and keep your mind off study when you sleep. You can develop this by practice. All study and no relaxation isnt a good thing. Allocate some time for hanging out with friends, or see a movie, or play some games, or simply spend time with the family, or do anything that gives you a different experience and energises your brain cells. Eat good food and take care of your health, so that you dont lose time.
Hope some of these things would be of help. Good luck.

What is your definition of good? Getting into a so-called good college depends upon where you live, your financial situation, but most importantly upon what you are willing to do to learn. Assuming you have an active one, expect to sacrifice a great deal of your social life. Generally speaking (I'm a teacher),

1. Learn to play the school game and play to win. Although learning is important, playing the game well is vital for school success.

2. Never mistake yourself for your performance. Strong or weak performance is not who you are.

3. At the beginning of each year, suss out your teachers. Different teachers have different requirements and different expectations. Live up to his or her expectations.

4. Stay caught up on all assignments. Don't procrastinate reading assignments, responding to questions, or practicing skill assignments. Prepare ahead if you can. Always do ALL the problems/questions, even if only the even numbers were assigned.

5. Pay keen attention in class, sit on the edge of your chair and engage actively in class by mentally/verbally questioning and participating. Take notes. When you go home, review all your notes for the day.

6. Expect to memorize some things. Ask your classmates (the ones who usually know things) and/or teacher to re-explain anything you didn't understand. Don't be too proud to ask or nag people who can help you.

7. If you're not good at the subject, see if the school can help you get extra help and take advantage of it religiously.

8. Before tests, review and practice, especially the problems/questions that give you fits. Think of a warrior preparing for battle. Think of yourself as a learning warrior.

9. Remain pleasant to classmates who tease you for being nerdy. However, don't let them stop you from achieving your learning goals. It's your life, right?

10. Never, ever cheat. Your integrity, honor, and self-respect are far more value able than any assignment, test, or exam, or what anyone thinks of you. Unlike your grades, this does reflect who you are.

Flash Cards. Flash cards. Flash cards. Did I mention flash cards? Buy a package of index cards. Write on one side a key word or question and put the answer on the back. Make these cards from the key elements of your book and notes and quiz yourself -or better yet have someone quiz you. This makes studying much, much faster. Plus they can be easily taken with you on car trips etc. For hard to remember facts use word/picture associations -the funnier they are the better you will remember. For example to remember the name of the curved outer bone of your lower leg imagine it as a handle that someone could use to "pull your leg" which means the same thing as "fibbing" The bone is called a fibula "fib"ula. I can't say enough about making flash cards and using word associations. In ALL of my classes I receive the highest or one of the highest scores on every test. I know it is because I use these methods. Good luck in your studies.

Whatever is taught in the school should be regularlly repeate at home, in the class carefull listen the lecture and if any doubt ask to teacher still you are not clear note down it and clear it with your friend or any other. You should learn by writing i.e. making notes of the subject not just reading the book.
