Depends on your insurance company, the 21-year-old's driving record, and the primary car of the aforementioned 21-year-old. In many cases, the cost will be the same.

However, if rates are not the same, it would most likely be cheaper for you to add the 21-year-old to your policy. This will show that he has the backing of a (responsible?) driver.

The highest insurance rates (assuming a clean driving record) occur between the ages of 18 and 25. After 25, with a clean record, he will no longer be considered high-risk, thus establishing a lower premium. At that time, when he is 25, I would certainly recommend getting him his own policy, if not sooner.

Adding my daughter(22) and her car was and still is cheaper than getting her own policy. She lives in the same house as I.

if you were just adding him on to your policy as a driver of one of your vehicles it would be cheaper, but having doing it with his vehicle your going to have to put him down as a part time driver, not a full time driver,so this will help keep the policy price down a lot, otherwise it will be expensive,id check in to it before i did anything ,and see which would be the cheapest way to go,good luck,i hope this help,s.
