or put faith on the shelf for a while hoping I will find my beliefs sometime later?

Follow your heart. If you feel something missing from your life, pursue it, be it fact or fiction. Some people NEED religion in order to survive... if you're one of them, then seek the fiction and embrace it. If that doesn't feel like you, then take a break and enjoy life. You may or may not stumble upon your beliefs at some future date, but don't force it and examine whatever you are told (especially here) with a fine tooth comb.

I'm agnostic, and when I explain that to people, they never seem to understand that it is an end-point philosophy. I reserve judgment until such time that sufficient evidence exists to prove or disprove the existence of God or gods. I don't anticipate any such evidence to be forthcoming.

If there is a God, there is no evidence for Him. If there is not a God, it is impossible to prove that He doesn't exist, because it is impossible to prove a universal negative. One would have to possess complete knowledge of the universe, which is impossible.

You already have a belief: the belief that you don't know what to believe. That's quite reasonable, and there's no rule that you have to pick one or the other set of beliefs now, or ever.

I've read several religious texts, and I've found that they have many themes in common. If you can get past what each one is literally saying, I think you'll find that what they really are is a metaphor for something that is very hard to describe, because it transcends our normal thoughts and concepts about how the world works. Truth is never absolute when you try to put it in to words, because to say something is to say that it is one thing, and not another. Real truth encompasses all things, and therefore is impossible to describe. Therefore, it can only be hinted at through metaphors. When people confuse the metaphor for the thing being described by the metaphor, they miss the point.

Have you read up on the theories of evolution? Do you find these to seem the most plausible?
If you do not believe in God or whatever powerful beings people believe in out there, there is nothing wrong with that. You can still be a great person without a faith to follow. Don't let people tell you that you need to believe in something, that you need to "find the light". If you are a happy, friendly person you have already "found the light" and you don't need anything to make you who you are. Just keep on living your life and if you start to think that some religion makes sense, then go with it.

Yes Bekkie, But lets fisrt find out how our creator defines faith.
At Hebrews 11:1 It says, Faith is the assured expectation of the things hoped for , the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld.
True faith is not crudulity, that is , a readiness to believe something with out sound evidence or just because a person wants it to be so.Genuin faith requires basic or fundamental knowledge, acquaintances with evidence, as well as heartfelt appreciation of what that evidence indicates. Thus, although it is impossible to have real faith without accurate knowledge, the Bible says that it is " with the heart " that one exercisis faith.-
Romans. 10:10.
So why do many people not have faith?
I will just touch on a few . because there are to many to write in this e-mail.
Faith is a fruit of Gods spirit, that is defined as" Gods active force",
or active direction comming from GOD, and God gladly gives it to all those who seek it.( Gal 5:12; Luke 11:13, ) So persons with out faith are not seeking that spirit, or they are doing so for a wrong purpose or resisting its operation in thier lives. Many things influence this. I don't have time now but if I still see your question or e-mail me I will go on to explain how you can have faith and a true meaning to life , why you are here and what is mankinds future and where can you find GODS true faithfull people today.

Thank you,

I grappled with my spirituality for quite a long while. I researched a lot of religions to try and find something that made sense. Eventually, I stopped looking and just started writing down my beliefs. Now when people ask what I believe, I can say it in a concise and articulate way. I feel confident about my views and don't need an organized religion to frame my perspectives for me. Keep an open mind, it will come to you.

Good luck.

Keep searching. Ask God to show you where to look. And help you define what it is your looking for. I have heard and read so many stories of miracles happening for people looking for the answers and asking God to direct their search efforts. In faith believing that you will receive you answer, ask. You only need as much faith as a single grain of mustard seed.

Yes. Please, keep searching.

There's a book called "God is in the small stuff." Maybe you are looking for something on too big a scale. Try to notice the little things. Imagine, if there is a God, what is He doing for you right now, or what is he trying to tell you?

Here's one of my favorite quotes:
"We have to take the first step as though there were no God. It is no use to wait for Him to help us, He will not, but immediately (when) we arise, we find he is there." -Oswald Chambers

See, when people look for facts and proof, they don't get to see God's heart. But if you go looking for His heart, and really listen, you will find it.

Keep searching, don't give up, humans need the existence of God.
If you search with your honest heart, God will show you the way to find the true religion.
May God help you.

I gave up my search and asked God the Creator to show me Who He was and He did, when I least expected it. Just have enough faith to believe that He will reveal Himself to you when He knows you are ready.

i think even though you say you have no faith , you still want to find the truth. You need to search continually for the truth. In matthew 6:33 says "keep on then seeking the kingdom and his righteousness, and all these (other) things will be added to you"..so as we see that god wants us to keep seeking his kingdom and the truth and the rest will just fall in its place.i hope you find the truth.
