You can stay, but odds are you won't trust him and subconsciously you will respond in that way, or you will have to punish him. Either way he will end up resenting you.
You can stand up for yourself and let him know lying isn't an option with you, and date him in a year or two if you are even interested then.
The options really are vast... I would probably forgive him right away, so he would feel secure in his ability to date anyone he wants as long as I'm his girlfriend (read that part with a bit of a sarcastic tone)

It all depends, to be in a relationship with someone you have to trust him or her. If one of you has trust issues then it puts a severe damper on everything. Ok maybe he did have a gf at the time but now if he's single and telling you how he feels, it is very much possible that he is telling the truth. Guys can lie but they can also tell the truth.

You really need someone to be honest with you in a relationship. Ditch this guy and find a guy that is honest and treats you with respect. YOU deserve better than this definently

why be with someone you can't trust? if he lied to you once, he'll lie again. and what makes you think he won't find another girl while dating you, like he did to his "current" gf? find a better guy.
