I have heard from a source that a certain city in the U.S. is close or may have already made a way for people with picture phones to send images to 911 sevices. What does this mean to the public? If it is happening, it will make every citizen a police. What a bout the blackmail factor? Our technology is becoming our warden. I love technology. If I didn't I wouldn't be here. but I am almost terrorfied of all the things that will come in the coming years while comsumerism is using the imagination to sell products. The quest for money is rapidly closing doors and tightining our Beautiful spacious skies. Our search for securtiy is robbing us of our security. Personally, I don't want a person hanging me with a picturephone and photoshop. Thats my opinion, Whats yours?

If you aren't committing a crime, you have nothing to worry about.

BTW - the photo phone only works when 9-1-1 calls the person with the phone back. And right now, only NYPD has it.

If you want to get really paranoid, there is a maintenance code that allows the cell phone company to pick up all conversation and noises in the vicinity of the cell phone even if it is turned off. The CIA and the FBI have already accessed criminals that way (with warrants, of course).

I'm not seeing this. I have not lost a single freedom yet. I mean, except for the ones I lose due to my propensity for making stupid career moves... .

How do you figure that a few people taking photos of crime with camera phones is suddenly going to make "every citizen a police"? Does that mean I'll get to upgrade to a camera phone?

What blackmail factor? If a person has the kind of heart that would blackmail, then he doesn't need camera - phone to carry it out. Blackmail is an old business. Been around much longer than my 45 years here on earth.

I don't see technology as my warden. I am not in a prison of any kind... Technology is my TIME WASTER, though. Dang! Here I am again at YA!
The "quest for money"? Well, we have to kind of "quest for money" so we can pay our bills.

Don't be terrified. Step back from the computer.... go to a gardening store. You will see lots of folks shopping for various types of garden stuff... front porch pansies, lawn sod, vegetable seeds, etc... Invest in some of the stuff and plant a garden. Gardening is so therapeutic. It's not really as bad as you think.

Read a good book on a late night at an all-night diner. Volunteer in your community. You'll see. The sky is still blue (except maybe in the summer in Maryland). People are just people.

There's so much good happening around you. Don't get all hung up on media hype and conspiracy theorists.

Hmmm.. hadn't heard of this, can see a ton of technical issues with it, but it is interesting. Mostly I don't see places doing this anytime soon, but I do know of people taking pics of the robbers tag with camera phones. I am sure the robber wasn't pleased about this.
It is theoretically possible to alter pictures and frame someone and it may happen someday. The problem is that most people aren't technically savvy enough to pull it off.
I can see a plus for cameras in ongoing calls to help the responding officers find what and who is going on there, I always hated going into a call blindly with little information.

Considering that many things get misconstrued in life, privacy rights are important. Yes, technology is really hanging us. I got in trouble recently when somebody surreptitiously recorded me saying something without its context--and it sounded horrible. I am still fighting to get out of that trouble. It can happen with picturephones too. We need to get back to the Constitution and remember that illegal searches and seizures really do send innocents to jail!

China is getting free, US is taking Chinas place. No place stay free forever. America will be different then the cowboy era. Many police, many ethnics equals many crimes. I would move to Island if i like to be safe, not sorry.

If you study history, Hitler demanded that the Reichstag (German Parliament) pass a law called the "Enabling Act"' so that he could protect the German people from riots, revolution and terrorism. Well, since the Oklahoma Bombing, Congress has continued to pass one draconian law after another.

These laws give the executive branch power to tap phones without warrants, get your financial records, library and video records, and virtually any information about an individual, without a warrant. They can hold people indefinitely, without charges. The president has now authorized torture on terrorist "suspects".

Does this sound like the US? I think it sound like Nazi Germany.

These laws are un-constitutional, of course. But that doesn't stop congress from passing them. Now, they are trying to stop freedom of speech. Congress is considering requiring any organization that provides information to over 500 people, with the goal of influencing legislation, to register with them. In effect, you would need a license to provide information to the public.

We are fast losing our freedoms. I don't know about you, but I don't need these people protecting me from terrorism. I would rather take my chances and be free.
