can u train a chihuahua to use a litter box with dirt added instead of cat litter?

I use a dog litter box with dog litter for my chihuahua. He was paper trained and when i bought it he learned how to use it on his own. Very great results and litter absorbs the smell. They sell them in different sizes and I have the toy size for my chihuahua. I bought mines from petco. but you can also get it at petsmart and other pet stores

My husband's aunt trained her chiihuahua to use a litter box with litter. Dirt would seem to make a huge mess.

Definitely the box would be better ... neater and cleaner ... and can be located perhaps in a laundry area? And, yes I know chihuahua owners who, with patience, have trained their adorable sidekicks to use the litter box. So, "Garfield, move over! "

They have dog litter boxes & dog litter , try your local pet store.

The box works just fine just make sure your dog still gets the proper excersize& fresh air

Why not just put the pad that they are already trained to use in the box? it's easier to clean than litter... either that, or just put the pad on the floor... you know, like the wee wee pads. My Chihuahua is trained to use a pad no matter where we go, although she will go outside as well.. my mom has also trained her Carin Terrier to use a pad if she is not home.

dont use the litter I was told by my vet that the litter hurts their feet just use the pads inside the litter box. good luck.

You never EVER use cat litter with a dog box. They sell dog litter - but why not take the dog outside to eliminate?

Dirt could carry parasites, don't use dirt.
