Has its origin in India, where apparently, a lot of thinking and research was done many centuries ago on many matters related closely to life, including sex as a matter of pleasure, and also sex as a means to arouse the inner power the humans have, lying coiled at the base of the spine! the all pervasive, mighty power called 'kundalini', has both masculine and feminine components ('ida' and 'pingala') lying in some kind of serpentine fashion fastened to either side of the spine! anatomical exercises with mental, will, power focussed in a certain manner, as in meditations of a few formats, were, it seems, practised in ancient times, to stir up the great power and through that to attain the ultimate pleasure and freedom of Realisation ,or, salvation of the ultimate kind! Tantric sex was part of the practice: but, it is not to be taken lightly or frivolously. Only a very brief indication has been given in this answer, which is not to be taken as a complete, authentic explanation of tantric sex!

To swanjarvis answer(which was fantastic) I would add that it is a sexual practice based on energy transference...breathing techniques, and spiritual union. It's a very intense meeting of mind, body and soul.
As to how this is better than "normal" what ever that is...
I would say that this Eastern approach is a slooooow and deeeep experience where as average Western Style sex is usually pretty focused on the out-come (no pun intended).
It's very special and mesmerizing.

It's a bunch of weird sex techniques based on Buddhist mysticism. Wait until you're married and then look into it.
