Addiction is something that you will always be overcoming, no matter how long in recovery. You will have up days and down days and your feelings will be overwhelming. It is perfectly 'ok' to feel as if you want to drink one day and don't the next. That is part of dealing with your addiction. The fact that you realize that you have a problem and are wanting to take steps to correct it is something to commend you on. Don't give up hope and look forward to what the future has in store for you. Look towards friends who are sober and lean on them for support during these times of of trials.

The drug topamax may help you overcome your temptations while in treatment. Some people take it for migraines and mood disorders, but doctors prescribe it "offlabel" to alcoholics". I took it for a mood disorder and it was very hard to drink any beer while on it. It tasted flat. My friends kept asking me what was wrong when I would leave my beer untouched at the pub. I would still do the 12 step program too. You can't rely on pills alone.

You want to quit because you see what it's doing to your life, but you want to drink because you're addicted and your body is craving it. Twelve-step programs have successful results with the majority of those treated and there are many facilities in southern California. I suggest going to http://dasis3.samhsa.gov/PrxInput.aspx?STATE=California, which will allow you to search for facilities. Another site to search is http://www.drug-rehabs.com . These will show you many in your area. If you still can't find what you want, just google 'alcohol addiction' along with your area and TONS of links will pop up for you. Best of luck. It will get worse if you don't take steps to make it better.

It is common for alcoholics to experience this. People in the 12 step programs understand this and support one another.
Promises at Malibu or that one in Hollywood where Lohan is right now.

Yes, it's for the days when you want a drink and the days when you don't. Knowing a lot of recovering alcoholics, I'd say the days when you do far outnumber the days that you don't.

Like a lot of things in life, you have to quit whether you feel like it or not. You find out in recovery that for a lot of addicts EVERY DAY holds temptation and reasons to abuse substance. You get out of your head, reach out, stay busy and engage yourself in things that keep you away from trouble.
