Well, Sleep may be Death's cousin.

But I think Sleep is around to keep us in Life a bit longer, and delay our visit with Death.

Haha, I wouldn't have answered if I hadn't found this amusing, though. I suffer from insomnia sometimes and just long for sleep, (long for death whatever.)

Death is sleep of the soul.
But I don't think sleep is death of the body.
And you may sleep when you die, but you're bound to die a lot sooner if you don't sleep a bit more than that.

Everyone has their own natural rhythm, and a healthy balance between diet, rest and exercise is tailored to each individual. We can make some general rules of thumb that describe most of the populace, but we need to be careful to admit that some people have slightly different optimum balances.
I can't help but notice you are 'shoulding' on other people quite emphatically (!!!), and you seem to be pretty wound up. Out of curiosity, are you a generally judgmental person, or a perfectionist, or have a high metabolism? If so, you might be on one side of normal in your sleep need, and it would be natural to project your 'norm' onto others to whom it might not apply. Just food for thought. Best of luck.

I disagree. Sleep is part of life. It recharges you and helps you to be more alert and productive throughout the day. Everyone's different, but averaging 8 hours a night usually does the trick for me.

I disagree. There is a huge diffrence between sleeping and being dead. It's healthy to get at least 8 hours every night.

It just seems that way because you feel like you're wasting your life (well, a third of it) when you sleep. But if you don't get the proper amount, your "living" hours may not have the quality you'd like them to. You'll be tired, man!

You should sleep the amount that allows you to feel rested and energetic.

Too much sleep...and too little...are both bad for some.
