Why do lots of gangsters have tattoos?

well if you mean "gangster" as in one who is affiliated with a known gang, then we have tattoos for many reasons. They pay homage to the things we respect and love, as well as things we hold dear to us. Whether that's our family, gang, or neighborhoods, you can't take those things with you when you die. but at least in heaven/hell, I can still have my tats.

whatever their reasoning behind it, is why they get it!
not all "gangsters" have tattoos, and the ones that do, don't always get them for the same reasons.
some may get them to remember a loved one who has passed away, but are memorial tattoos limited to gangsters? no!!
some may get them to show things that they have gone through in their lives, but are "non-gangsters" not allowed to get a tattoo to represent what they are going through?
the only way to answer this question exactly, besides "because they want to," is to ask every single gangster out there, which is impossible!!

Most "Gangsters" have tattoos to represent where they are coming from, the neighborhood, or their gang membership. Also they could be doing it in an honor of a loved one.

Most gang members have tattoos so that they can identify themselves. In California San Quentin Prison there are two main gangs - the Norteños and the Sureños. The each have very definite symbols tattooed on them so that they are easily identified by each other.

Its all about respect. If you have ever lived in "da hood" thats why they get them some show respect to there family {Like me}or a die love one, some show respect for their set or gang if thats what you call it that, some show respect for there boys who also maybe died its a respect thang. You can be with it or not but you got to respect it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
