Get the CHI, it is well worth the money. It will straighten your hair in half the time of the cheaper ones and is less damaging since it is 100% ceramic plates not just ceramic coated. It is $$ well invested and the cheaper brands such as Conair don't even compare in quality. You can get them cheaper online if you shop around. ISO is also a good brand, cost about the same as CHI, unless they go on sale or you find a beauty outlet.

I have the Solia. It's pretty good and it actually reaches the same high temperature as CHI. I didn't get the CHI cuz of the bad reviews. I went to Folica.com and did some research b4 I bought it. You should check it out too. The have pretty good prices and a lot of selection.

My advice is to just spend the extra money and get the CHI. It is the best straightener that I have ever owned, and I have the weird, half curly, half straight hair that is crazy hard to get straight and mine is smooth and shiny. If you STILL dont want to buy the CHI I would recommend any ceramic straightener, get them from target, walmart, any hair place, but remember, you get what you pay for.

Try doing an online search for the best prices on the CHI irons. They really are the best ones out there. I will never use anything else.

Anything ceramic. Now, if you buy a cheap one it will break quickly. If you buy the proper one that is maybe more pricey, but also more durable and whatnot, it benefits you in the long run, you know?

Try Corioliss. You can find them on eBay for about $30-$40 bucks (they're usually pretty expensive). It's a professional brand and it doesn't fry your hair. Actually, it leaves your hair looking very smooth and healthy.

Conair. Without a doubt. Buy the one with the steaming action. It's AWESOME. My Grandma and I both use it and we both love it. Much Affection, Nick.
