Hi, I am from the UK and have been working in China for 2 years. It is a good and simple life, stress free. The wages are not fantastic but the cost of living is so cheap. The thing to be careful about is money, most chinese people think anyone from another country is rich and they want some of your money. Your friend will have to be careful who he makes friends, having said that, once a chinese person is your friend then they are very good and true friends. Maybe you will lose your friend to China, many of us just dont want to ever leave here.

I love China. Sure, there are frustrations, but if you are in a good job, you'll learn to let it roll off your back. China has actually taught me a lot about patience since there are things you can't change and you just have to accept that. Still life here is good. My school provides my housing including a bathtub, three meals a day, pays for electricity and water, pays me for approxiamately 4 1/2 half months of vacation each year, round-trip airfare to my home country, cable TV, weekends and nights free, and transportation to my work site 50 minutes away from my flat. In the last year I have been to Korea twice and I will be going to Australia this month. I've visited other cities within China and plan to tour through southern China at the end of this school year. These are things I would never have enough money to do at home. I've met people from all over the world who seem to understand me better than most of my fellow countrymen. I really prefer living here than in the states. Life is easier even with some of the things us "laowai" label as "Chinese logic." However, it's something you will have in common with other foreigners and when you get together there is usually a loud and raucous b!tchfest over the things that drive you crazy, but then everyone laughs and it's forgotten. China is a challenge. It's an adventure on a daily basis. If you think your friend can handle that, he should come on over. I'll warn you though, China has a way of sucking you in and it could be a very long time before your friend wants to return home.

I live and work in China. I wouldn't suggest that your friend come to work here in China unless he has nothing else worth holding onto where he's from. Yes, the lifestyle is relatively "stress" free, but it is only stress free from a financial perspective. Psychologically, it can be really screwed up. People are always starring at you and everyday someone is calling you a "laowai" (foreigner). The culture here is very different and what we think is rude is common here. If your friend doesn't have a good career going or any prospects, then China is a good idea. You can live well and scoop up girls pretty easily. But for anyone that can actually do something, China is a waste of your time. Compared to our standards, CHina is a backward country with little opportunity to grow in. I would only work in China if I was working at a foreign company and only for the short term (3 or 4 years).

It depends on what kind of work your friend will be doing in China. I taught there for a year and just returned home to Canada in August. While I was there I never had to worry about not having enough money, and I was basically a celebrity in the city where I was living because they hadn't had much exposure to foreigners. We had an amazing time. The clubs are so much fun. People go out to dance and have a good time rather than to dress "slutty" and find a random "hookup" to entertain them for a night. I've been home for nearly 6 months, and more than anything I want to go back. I wish I would have apprecited more of it while I was there.

As you know, China is a big country. It depends on where and the type of job. I have been working for a large multinational now for 3 years in Shanghai. The country is fascinating, the culture old and interesting, the drivers are inexperienced and dangerous, food is cheap and good, pollution and littering is everywhere,.... In general, I would say working in China is good, but be prepared for some culture shock, especially in rural areas. If you work in a major city, everything is available. Some western items are expensive. As warned, you will be considered "rich", even if you are not.

I lived in China for five years. It depends on whether you really want to learn about a different place and a different culture. If you want life to be like it is in the US and you want to gauge everything by US standards (such as access to this... access to that...), China is much closer to the US than in the past, but it isn't the US. But it is an exciting place and you can learn a lot. And yes-- the cost of living is cheap as long as you don't require replicas of the American lifestyle.

working in china is good, if your like a yellow hair blue eye person. then you stand out, but im chinese, and there are alot of people in china. I suggest your friend to just be in the crowd. dont dress fancy;people will rob you. dont be the center of something; the jail is really critical.... and stuff like that. o ya. the stuff in china is realy cheap and good. make sure to buy stuff there! if you buy one lolipop in canada, you could buy 6 more lollipops in china.

it has its upside and down sides, things are very cheap, especialy food, you can do well, but the traffic is terrible, polution, people always stare at you as if you are from outer space

average wage is 1,400rmb for teachers(chinese) a foreigner gets around 5-10,000rmb so you can live okay, but they all think foreigners are rich. so take care.
