This is from an episode from the Voyager series, from an alien doctor and his views on science. Something to think about...

“Something so enormous as Science will not stop as something as small as man. It’s good to know how the world works. It is not possible to be a scientist unless you believe that all the knowledge of the universe and all the power that it bestows is of intrinsic value to everyone. We must share that knowledge.”

I would say that Roddenbury was more of a "humanist" than anything. Star Trek is filled with those ideas. That humans have resolved their differences and work together.

Roddenberry was Dead by the time Voyager hit.

A lot of the important stuff came from others incuding Michael Pillar, Brannon Baraga and Rick Berman

Gene Roddenberry was an interesting Atheist. I was surprised when I read this quote by him:
"I condemn false prophets, I condemn the effort to take away the power of rational decision, to drain people of their free will--and a hell of a lot of money in the bargain. Religions vary in their degree of idiocy, but I reject them all. For most people, religion is nothing more than a substitute for a malfunctioning brain."

Trek has always been good for this kind of philosophy. That's why I liked it so much. :)
