the truth is factual and cannot be proven wrong, but what people think is the truth is sometimes what they want to be true and therefore the difference is in essence EVERYTHING

Absolute truth is unknowable, thus whatever we regard as "truth" is a product which we have deduced/embraced through living. Each person's version of truth reflects what that person has been taught, experienced, and assimilated during his or her lifetime; that which is truth to one may be totally unacceptable to someone else. It seems to me that the best one can do is to is to maintain a questioning open mind so far as Truth is concerned.

The truth, creatively edited and stated with carefully chosen words can lead people to the desired conclusion of the editor. In effect, lying while telling the truth.

I don't believe in any "absolute" truth so I could hardly define a difference. "Truth" is a matter of perception. I expect you'll get many different opinions that will confirm this.

"the truth" has to stand up to the ultimate tests of no change over time, distance, form. Therefore if people just say something and agree about something, this does not make it true. It makes it an agreed-upon assumption with no backing stable scientific fact.
Therefore MOST of what we think is true is not in fact true. It is an agreed-upon assumption at best.

The truth is that there are as many truths as there are believers of the truth. My truth, your truth, the dry-cleaner's truth. All truths.

The truth is relative, that's the only truth.

I understand the difference, but it doesn't stop me from saying that God doesn't exist. It's like someone coming up to you and saying, "You know, I've got a tree made of live purple hedgehogs" and instead of saying, "I don't believe that" you say, "You do not" because the whole thing is so absurd and improbable that, although you know that you might be wrong, you just jump straight to "that's not true." I do that, when it comes to the existence of God. It's so bizarre that I just throw up my hands and say, "You know what? No, he doesn't."
