We know more than you think. It wasnt a teen that invented computers, ipod, itune,360, or wii.

I am "amused" by your question. Don't underestimate the "older" folks ! I have children almost as old as "your" parents. I work on a computer everyday and "all this technology" keeps my "older" mind happy. Give your parents some credit and a little respect, Ipod !

An ipod will be very well received! Great gift idea.......cuz you know as we older folks reach the ripe ole age of 39 we have such trouble hearing and don't the ipods come with ear buds?
hahahahahaha
And don't worry about them not knowing how to use it.....we've read and interpreted a few intructions booklets by the time we get to be that old!

I'm 42 and I love my iPod. It is very simple to use - your parents will figure it out. You can help them if they can't. The real question is whether they will use it. Do they like music? Do they spend time where they can have it on - jogging, working on the computer, etc.? If they are too busy, they may not end up using it much.

Also - MY mom is 67 and just got a Nintendo DS and loves it. She got one for my sister and her husband, who are 40. That may be an idea for you.

I'm 37 years old & I know what an Ipod is. In fact, our generation are the ones that were the first to become computer literate, so one of us "old folks" possibly CREATED the Ipod.

Later Dude...

What keep our older minds happy is the hope that our children would not be as naive as you.
Do your parents like music?
Do the know how to use a computer?
If so, then that would be a very nice gift.

i think you may be right unless they are into games and new electronics they won't really use it.instead why not look for some Cd's or if they have a DVD some movies that they will like. or better yet get a digital camera with and extra flash card, they can take it to get developed or do it on the computer, mine holds about 130 or more pictures and i use it a lot.

My mom is 50 and has one.

Don't think just because they are older that they are stupid. The only ones that don't 'get' using any new technology, don't really want to understand how to use it.

I am forty years old and my kids have I-Pods and I would love to have one! They really aren't that hard to figure out and besides 39 is not old for crying out loud. Boy that hurts!! Get them and I-Pod or better yet, take them to pick out their tombstone! Lol! You never know, your parents might get up and moving if they have music to listen to.

If they really like music, then I say go for it. But if they aren't into music that much, I'd say get them a digital camera instead. Also, gift cards to the movie theatre would be nice.
