protein is protein to the body. the quality is all that matters. protein supplements actually provide more bioavailable protein than most whole food sources and are more cost effective because of that.

No. Protein is a food (4 calories per gram), and is essential for human consumption. It contains vital amino acids that repair and build muscle cells. You don't necessarily need to take a protein suppliment unless you are weight training, as your body will only need the extra amino acids in the protein to rebuild itself after strenuous training. The kind of protein found in most suppliments is "Whey", which is derived from milk and is absorbed very quickly for post-workout effectiveness. If you want more protein in your diet and aren't weightlifting, it is usually recommended not to take these "protein drinks," as they are extra calories your body will not need/use. All you need for extra protein is to add some low fat meats (skinless chicken breasts, egg whites, lean beef), dairy (skim milk, cottage cheese), and/or kidney beans (very healthy) and you should be fine.

Most likely not, as long as you are getting all of the nutrients your body needs to stay healthy. But I would read the label and be sure it is a quality drink. You still want to have plenty of fresh foods. Stay away from soybean isolate protein though, your body really can't digest it well.

Nah, its fine. Just don't go to crazy with it and look for a whey protein supplement with low calories and grams of carbs to ensure that your not getting an excessive amount of sugar with your protein.

Most people get very little protein in their diet, and it's good to have a little extra if you don't go crazy. Espcially for the non-meat eaters.

Nothing wrong with that at all. Whey is a good safe source of protein. It is good for any diet.
