I love alcohol. I feel like it's my best friend, but because I'm studying to be a teacher, I realize that I have to stop getting drunk so much. I know that if I had kids, I would have second thoughts about someone teaching my kids if I knew he drank as much as I do. I never ever drink and drive. I sometimes drink alone, however. I was getting drunk almost every night for a while. I attended class drunk once. Help!

You've already taken the most difficult step...admitting there is a problem.

Many cities have anonymous support groups you can join. This way, your group members and your sponsor will be there to help you along. Plus, you are more likely to succeed if you have verbally told other people that you want help. It's like the difference between telling yourself you are quitting smoking, and telling yourself and people who are going to hold you to it. Which I know about, trust me!!!

Good luck in your efforts, I know you can do it! (I am 28 days in, quitting smoking. It sucks. But I'm glad I did, and it is getting easier!)

Well whatever you do, make sure that you are truly in control of your drinking once you are officially teaching because as a teacher for close to 10 years I know that there will be days that you are counting the hours to Friday happy hour! I am not a "drinker" and just a few months ago I was so stressed and came home and made a drink- very unlike me! If you have issues with alcohol make sure you overcome them the best you can because like I said there will be days that the stress is quite a bit and if you are already drinking as a release/stress reducer you will encounter challenges.

Good Luck to you!

As long as you are sober at work you are OK. But think of your health. Do you really want to be drunk every night? Maybe try to limit your drinking at first 1-2 a day, then only on the weekends. Join AA in the process.

Most likely, where ever you are studying has an office that specializes in treating problems such as yours. This office is usually located in the same office as your college counseling center, or at least nearby. These services are often provided at no costs, are convenient for students' schedules and are completely confidential. The counselors employed in these centers are highly skilled and have the same (if not better) credentials as those in your community. It is great that you recognize that you need assistance. I hope that you find it and are able to recover and have a wonderful career. Good luck!

Go to a church such as the Vineyard or a Calvary Chapel- God can cure anything. I am 100% serious and if your life is important to you seek this out and you will be blessed. These are normal Christian type churches by the way... that speak truth.

you know as funny as this may sound --its the truth. you have admitted that you have a problem. now what you need to do next is either go to a place where they can detox you. you have a very bright and rewarding future ahead of you. i can tell by your question that youre not stupid. go get yourself detoxed. when you co me out of detox, find a new hobby. anything to help keep your hands free of picking up that bottle/can of alcohol. and to polish it off go to church and have the preacher/priest pray for you and with you on a constant basis. as said before you sound very brilliant and intelligent. dont let so mething so stupid stop you from doing what we need more of in this world...... aring compassionate teachers. if i can be of further assistance, dont hesitate in writing. xxoo

Please get help. There are many groups you can attend and many counselors you can talk to. Take it from someone who knows. My brother has lost everything due to alcoholism. He just got out of prison for DUI'S. We are talking about a wonderful man, father, son, friend and brother who is extremely talented and had everything going for him and lost control because of drinking. You need to open your eyes before it is too late.

either start attending AA or simply stop drinking, put limits on yourself. give yourself only one day out of the week you can drink or something. that or make yourself so busy that you don't have time to dirnk.
