I do not know what you consider affordable. I have a house in Aguadilla that will be available in March for rent ($450 per month).
3br 1bath The house is 8 miles from the Aguadilla Air port, 8 miles to crashboat beach, 5 miles to Isabella shopping center, and 7 miles to the Aguadilla mall and there is a school, ferreteria, and a few churches down the street.
OTG Realty manages this property for us. Here is their info:

You really cant just go to La Perla & rent a property. La Perla was originaly a squatter community. The people who live there mostly have their family that lived there. You cant really sell a property there. The only way you can get a place there is if you had family there & you could stay with them or build on top of there house. You can go to the caserios (projects). Some are really bad & some are not so bad. But you usually need to qualify for them. Also the central areas of PR have houses & apts cheap but its more rural, depending if you like that or not. Old San Juan is very expensive. So you should look into other areas of San Juan that are cheaper, like Rio Piedras & Santurce. Or slightly outside of San Juan like Bayamon, Carolina & Toa Baja.

Do you know which part of the island you want to be at?

You will pay more the closer you get to a large metropolitan area.
You could always rent an apartment / walk-up for the initial 6 months while you look for permanent place to live. (upwards of $800 per month)

I would say that apartments start at about $200,000 and go upwards
Houses start higher

Sandra makes a good point...."you should re-think moving there." I dont know if you have family but let me advance you that PR is not a very safe to live... I would try renting before deciding on purchasing property... Sadly, High crime and drug infested is the best way of describing PR. I dont even visit any longer... Best of Luck!

You should rethink that but if you want to move and do not have your own house it will be quite expensive. You should secure a job and then look for housing. It is not as cheap as many people think. Good luck!
