I have been taking Cymbalta for pain for about two years. If I remember correctly, I also started on 30mgs. It took about four weeks to work. I have had to (in recent months) use it in combination with another medicine but it, in my opinion does help. Hang in there. The inital wait is tough...but I hope you see some results soon. I put the website for Cymbalta in the 'source' area so you can look it up (this is the official website for the drug from Eli Lilly...the maker of the drug so the information is the most reliable there is) and maybe it will answer some more of your questions. Good luck and email me if you have other questions...I'll try to answer them.

In a couple of weeks I noticed that the pain, and some of the tingling, in my leg and foot, from peripheral vascualr disease was gone. It wasn't like a pain pill that works in a hurry though. Just one day, I realized it was gone.
It also helped with my mood.
PS- You also need to be on at least 60 mg to get a true positive effect from Cymbalta.

It takes about 6-8 weeks for Cymbalta to work for chronic pain.
The manufacturer (Lilly) presents to doctors and nurses that Cymbalta is used for diabetic neuropathy pain (which is a very painful condition). They say it does take some time to work effectively when used for this.
Work with your doctor and don't listen to people on Yahoo who recognize Cymbalta as an antidepressant and think they are MD's. Ask your doc... he knows what he is doing. Obviously he is up on the current use of this medication.

Hi, my neurologist prescribed it to me for pain from fibromyalgia and also as a preventative for migraine headaches. It didn't stop the migraines but it DID stop the fibromyalgia and joint pain within 2 weeks. But I was taking 60 mg per day. My neurologist said that when it's used to treat pain (and not depression) it is supposed to work after one week. He said it can take up to 4 weeks or more for it to work for people with depression.

im taking cymalta 30 a day but its typically an anti depressant.. ive been on it for about 2 weeks and so far its made me sick to my stomach and it hasnt help with any of my pain if its also used for pain.. and well.. im still pretty depressed.. but im willing to give it a little longer before writing it off..
i did look it up and didnt find much aobu thelping with pain. and my therapist said she hasnt heard much about it being used other than a psych med for depression a nd mood control
but im sure if a certified dr wrote it for you.. then he knows what hes doing and you should give it a littel bit before writing it off your self.

According to the TV commercials Cymbalta is not for pain, but it is an anti-depressant. The website I've found that states this is www.health-care-information.org/drugs/Cymbalta.htm

I took it for depression and anxiety and had the worst withdrawal symptoms from it. Be careful coming back off it.
I have seen it advertised for nerve pain but I am unfamiliar with that.

What kind of pain? That's usually used for depression and takes a couple of weeks of regular daily dosing to build up in your system to control your seratonin levels.
