You can live there legally as long as you want, if you can afford it. Receiving any help from their government and respectively the taxpayers, however, is a myth - because you would not have access to their social system - and its fair, because you have not contributed to it.
I have no idea why they keep thinking it burdens them in any way. Obviously there is a group of people who do burden the system, but they would be refugees and from anywhere else but Europe.
You, however, will not be allowed to work legally in the UK, unless you have a work permit. Then, you would work, pay taxes and contribute to the social system, to which you will gain full access only after a year or two.

Yeah come on in and join the rest of the freeloaders in this country. It's about time that people from the rest of the world learnt that the streets aren't paved with gold and that we can't afford to look after our own old infirm and disadvantaged never mind another group of wasters. Stay where you are and contribute to your own country without filling ours. We are an island and there is only enough room for a certain number. Try France or Germany they have loads more room, more jobs, oh but you won't will you because they don't give you social hand outs free housing schooling and health care.

Dear friend,
You can work and live in UK. But for that you must have proper documents. Romania is now part of EU, so it wil be much easier for you to enter UK now. So contact UK Embssy / Consulate in Romania and get proper answer.
I am Indian and Living in India. If you reach UK, then don't forget me. I also wanted to come to UK.

every one else does come along and join the queue.I'm sure you will be found housing,from my taxes and a hospital place in front of the queue,schooling for your kids and social security payments for the rest of your family. PLease don't think i'm being abusive to you personally, I'm just fed up of bankrolling a load of people who have never contributed to our system,and come along and abuse it as a right.
