we have a 7 year old pet cockatiel and he just flies around the house. we havent been able to find him in 3 days (we always see him everyday) and we know he didnt get outside. however, we have searched the house and havent been able to find him anywhere. we think if he died of natural causes we would be able to find him. we kinda gave up on looking and now are just waiting to find him. but i was kinda confused i mean after 3 days if he was dead, wouldnt we start to smell it?

I would check your dogs output, if you know what I mean. I don't know how accepting your dogs are with your tiel, but perhaps they showed a little too much affection and swallowed him. The feathers wouldn't totally digest, so you might find evidence in the fecal matter.

If he is still alive, I would check under things. My old cockatiel used to hide under my dresser and try to build me nests under there. Check the smallest, darkest areas where he could possibly hide with a flashlight.

Man...that's terrible. I hope you find him and when you do, I hope you clip his wings to keep him out of danger!

I'm so sorry for your trouble. Many birds will hide under furniture or behind appliances.I don't think your dogs have eaten the little guy. Usually there are feathers and blood evidence because birds except for the very young won't go without a fight. Mine watched me search frantically for hours under a table. Not saying a word.Put his cage on the floor with the door open for easy access.I once showed my dog one of my bird's toys to sniff and he found the bird.I guess it depends on the dog.I believe you will find him. Have all the bedroom doors, closet doors, cabinet doors and such open, so that your bird can get to his cage on the floor in the familiar place it usually is with food and water. I recently de cluttered my home which is a blessing. Now energy flows freely and the drama in my home has disappeared. Good luck to you and yes you will find the little critter hungry tired and happy to be found. My thoughts are with you.

Not necessarily, cold slows the decaying process, and if it went somewhere ultra dry, it may never stink. To give an example, one of my friends is having a slight rat problem (entire neighborhood) and we set snap traps in the attic. Well, one snap trap... just inside the attic trapdoor which is in her back room right above the chairs in front of the t.v.
I asked her one day if she had checked the trap recently, she said no, not in a week or so. You'd think with a big nasty dead rat right above our heads, we'd smell it. We didn't, it had dried out to a hunk of bony, hairy rat jerky in the trap....
All kinds of things will affect the amount of stench from a carcass.
