yaktracks are spring like tracktion coverings for shoes so you slip less in ice and snow. But they have stainless steel that would be the only contact to ground. So there would be a sparking hazzard possible?

Having no clue as to what a "yaktrack" is, the answer nevertheless would be not to trust the contact between the ground and the "springs". That contact would be "incidental" to the intended function of the springs it would seem, so any electrical connection is only accidental and not to be relied upon. Better run an actual ground connection from the "yaktrack" so a good electrical ground before working in a hazardous atmosphere. The reference for this would be the National Electrical Code, but that is very heavy reading indeed. The index subject would be "grounding in explosive atmospheres".
