sometimes my windows dont operate, so if I open teh door and play with the wires, it will work.. Not sure how it happened but I want to try and fix it but dont know which color controls the windows

Bunch of different colored wires, different color for each power window. (This is for driver side master switch)Left Front should be light blue & white. Right front should be brown/white & white. Left rear should be dark blue/white & red/black. Right rear should be gray/black & dark green/white. Those should be the colors but if you are opening the door and playing with the wires to get them to work it must be a short in the wires, which need to be fixed. Could be possible that the plug in in the back of the switches need to be pushed back on tightly also. Try also searching for wiring diagrams for your Jeep. http://www.autozone.com has some good FREE repair information for some vehicles.

Sounds as if your contacts are dirty, may want to spray your electrical connections with a good electrical contact cleaner.
Once you have your door panel apart you can easily distinguish the wire colors.
If your problem is as you say that you have to wiggle wires for it to work then I would say you have split in your wire,could even be integral.
